I have a Medium power Medium action spinning rod that use finesse presentations with. I would like to fish flukes and senkos this year but i dont think this rod has enough backbone to get a good hookset (i always texas rig) or get that fish out of cover (i always target cover). Would a MHF spinning do the trick?

Depending on the rating, MXF or MF would be my choice.

Part of your hookset problem is your rod is medium action, you'll want a fast or extra fast action for these techniques. With a stronger Medium fast or xfast (IE St Croix) that's all you need or a Med/Hvy fast or xfast for even more power.

To each his own in this situation. I bought a 1/3 Feeshing N-V 7'3"MH for $106 on Amazon over the winter. The reviews were great on that rod but it felt like a broomstick to me. Who knows maybe I just don't have good taste. My preference like Darren is MF or MXF.

I prefer a medium and fast action.  The weight (or lack of) range of those lures normally matches up better with a medium power rod over a med heavy. Definitly a fast action though. Need it to load up faster for single hook lures. Medium action to me is only for lures like crankbaits with treble hooks.

Both sticks should cast a senko far enough as it's not really a light lure. I would say that it would depend much more on the type of cover you are targeting. If it's open water or sparse grass then a M should be fine but near mod to heavy grass or laydowns, I would personally prefer a MH.

yeah im fishing heavy weeds and brush. i lost way too many big fish last year just because i couldnt yank em out of there. eventually i got frustrated so i just waded in and pulled a 4 pounder out of the weeds :)

I use a 6'8" Mojo mxf with a Shimano Solstace 1000 spooled up with some 15lb Power Pro.

You can get away with either, normal a seiko weighs around 3/8oz and 99% of either M and MH rods will be rated to cast that weight no problem. To me its a preference, I use an MHF because I only throw 5" senkos and I use a 4/0 which is a pretty sturdy hook. Guys who love that huge hookset might use a medium.

x2. I prefer a ML and M rod but sometimes I have no choice but to use MH to H  when the weeds get too thick. Last year I was fortunate enough to catch my personal best on a ML rod 8 lbs mono, when the fish swam under 30 pounds of weeds and I had to go get him out by hand with a canoe. Was so fun though.

OP, given how you like to fish, I would agree you probably made the right choice.  Most people seem to like fishing a 5 inch Senko.  Would be a rare MHF spinning rod that couldn't cast one more than far enough.  A light fluke may cause a bit of a problem.  Depends on the rod's rating.  Some MHF spinning rods are rated down to 1/8 oz.

You could always invest in a third rod.  Someone has to feed the Bait Monkey.

I use a different rod for each of those baits, and I have thrown those two specifically a lot in the past 2 seasons. A 5" senko is easy to cast on either a M or MH rod, preferably fast action. I prefer to throw a fluke on a M or ML rod (spinning vs casting rod power differences), again fast action. A weightless fluke only weighs 5/16 oz which can make it more difficult to cast with a MH rod. I use a 7' MF Kistler LTA (one of the original ones, it's rated 1/8-5/8) and a Steez with the SV105 spool. I could also easily cast a fluke on one of my MF spinning rods with a Shimano Sahara (cost benefit analysis), I just like to use that Steez/LTA combo because it's a lot of fun.

For flukes I use a m/xf spinning.  For Senkos I use if t rigged a mh/f rod, if wacky rigged I use a m/f or m/xf.  Depending on the type of hook I use.

I forgot to mention something about hooks. I'll use a heavier hook with a senko if I'm fishing anything heavier than light cover, typically something like the Gamakatsu  superline EWG's, and usually a 4/0 or 5/0. I'll almost always use a light wire hook for flukes, and never bigger than 4/0. The lighter wire hook makes it easier to get good hook penetration with a lighter rod, whereas I can get away with a heavier hook on the senko because I'll be using a higher power rod. Make sense...?

I fish them on a M/XF spinning rod around light cover, and a MH/Fast Casting rod around heavier cover. I bump up to a heavy wire hook when using the casting gear as well.

Well had I waited and seen these posts I would had gone with a MXF, but I bought a MHF. However I will also be fishing spinnerbaits and t rig worms on it and I think a MXF may be in my future anyway, having those three rods will probably cover any situation except for a few baits that I don't plan on using. Also that rod I had was actually a MLM.
