1099gl Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I just bought a mojo bass 6'10 dropshot rod and now I need a reel to match. I will primarily be using this rod for dropshotting but every once in a while I will be using it for other techniques. I am looking for a reel to match for about $80. Any suggestions you have on type of line and line size would be helpful but I am assuming im going to run 8lb test on it. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 Maybe a 2000/2500 Shimano Sahara or Symmetry. Maybe a President. Too many out there. Take your rod to a guy that has a lot of reels and get something that balances good. Quote
tander Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Pflueger President Limited Edition, or any Pflueger for that matter. I got the Limited and the Supreme XT and can't tell much difference in either. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 "regular" Pflueger President, size 6930............$59.99..................done. Spend the other 20 bucks on tackle. 11 Quote
jtg32 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 The pflueger president is a really good reel for the money. Smooth, well built, and you will still have some money left over from your 80 dollar limit! 2 Quote
Missourifishin Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 ww2farmer hit the nail on the head, in my opinion. 2 Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 Okuma RTX 25S $75 online It's light and performs very well. We float the river for smallies about 3x a month and I easily catch 30-40 fish on each trip. It's been dunked a handful of times and still hasn't missed a beat. River smallies will really test out your drag too. The reel is over 2yrs old now. Still works great. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I just got a Pflueger President Limited Edition for $80 at Bass Pro Shops and can't wait for fishing season to start!!! The reel looks beautiful and seems very smooth, it's also neat knowing that this particular reel was only made for 2016 and once it's sold out it's gone. Quote
Burtonxj Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Have a couple of Shimano Saharas. They've held up great over the years. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 You really want to handle the reels in a store in order to get a sense of how they feel in your hands. Years ago I had completely decided to go the President route based on the numerous excellent reviews on the product(s). And there's no doubt they're excellent reels. However, in my hands, I didn't like how they felt, reeled, etc. Completely subjective. I tried a similar sized Shimano, Quantum, Daiwa, Abu, etc. The best *feeling* and reeling to me were Shimano. So like it's been said, if you can take your rod in to a store and try several different brands on it, choose the one you feel fits you best. It was Shimano for me, but you may feel some other brand fits your style better. 1 Quote

Kevin22 Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I am a shimano spinning reel fan, I like the spool design better than my pfluegers. I've used all mentioned here, owned most of them. If I had $80 right now I would buy a shimano sedona and a spool of 832/PP slick 8 braid. 1 Quote
