ethan-333 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 the silica gel packages that come with shoes to control moisture (little white package with small balls in it.... is there a better way to describe that?) has any one ever tried putting these packages in with their hooks to try and prevent rust? just a thought i had Quote
Fishinthefish Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I do it all the time. My wife works part time in a clothing store and ahe brings me home a handful every couple of months that they normally throw away. Quote
georgeyew Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I use the packs in my tackle boxes. But once in a while I still find slightly rusty hooks. I think that that several packs per box are needed to be effective. 3 Quote

SwampLife Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Every since I started using them i haven't had any rust issues.. I put them in all my boxes... I think I paid around 3 or 4 bucks for like 300 of them off of e bay.. Quote
kcdinkerz Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Gotta start saving them from my beef jerky bags lol 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 Keep in mind that they have to be "dried out" occasionally, microwave works. 1 Quote
RyanFishing Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I use them in all my boxes. Just throw a few throughout the box as evenly as you can and they work good. I've definitely noticed a difference. Quote
Ridi620 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 What a phenomenal idea. Thank you for this tip 1 Quote
ethan-333 Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 yes i read you can dry them out buy putting in microwave for a few seconds after i googled it. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 I'm sure those will work. It's probably cheaper than the current option I use of the Zer-rust tabs. Those have worked well for me though. Quote

I put them in my tackle box, got some really big packs in one of them, and tiny ones in my hook box. They work great. Whole gallon ziplock full of 'em collected over the years for when one of the kids' phones (or mine) get wet... 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 The only drawback to using them is getting caught switching lures when it's raining. Too much moisture and they turn to slime. I switched to the Z-Rust tabs. Quote
