ScorpiFish Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 $500 budget for a spinning rig used primarily for fishing Senko's Wacky style and would prefer a medium setup vs medium/light. How would you spend it? Quote
kcdinkerz Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Stradic ci4+ and a dobyns champion extreme. Or save the extra 300 and pick up a symetre and a compre Quote
EllisJuan Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I would shake the couch cushions for another 16 dollars than put this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011A4IDOO?keywords=shimano%20stradic&qid=1456975285&ref_=sr_1_1&s=hunting-fishing&sr=1-1 on this: https://www.*.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=GLoomis%2DNRX802SJWR&e=Y and use coupon code 25newc for another $25 off Quote
Cgrinder Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I might even be looking at MH spinning for 5" Senkos depending on the cover and rod brand. My preference would be a St. Croix rod 7' M in whatever model you like with a Shimano or Daiwa spinning reel. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I'm a fan of Shimano and St. Croix. Not long ago, the Legend Elite series from last year was in the St Croix bargain bin for around $250. Quote

I'd spend it on a CI4 Stradic and a Legend Elite or a Phenix rod! 1 Quote
tbone1993 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Honestly I would buy a pflueger president combo for $70. Then spend the rest of that cash on a dobyns champion and baitcaster of your choice. Just need to watch your line on a weightless senko rod. If you really want a slick rig look at the diawa balistic in a 2500 size, 3000 is ok but I prefer smaller reels. St croix avid is a nice rod Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 I believe you could state a budget of one million dollars, and there will always be someone tell you that you need $10.00 more...lol. Hootie 9 Quote
ibobpeb Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 That's a nice sized budget... can't go wrong... I would probably get a NRX 852s for $350 new at the yearly sportsman show, they always have amazing deals like that in May. Don't ever pay retail! Just google around the dates in your state for "Fishing Sportsman Show/Convention (State)". Or I'd buy a used one from a 3rd party for a little less. Then with the remaining $150 I'd pick up any spinning reel since I'm not too picky. Anything from Pflueger or Shimano for me, might even look into the JDM market for one since they're a little bit nicer. I would also consider what the guys up there recommended- legend elites from the bargain bin. So many options at that price point it gets dizzy. Just a warning: once you start, it's very hard to stop. Quote

You are very good at finding quality at a discount. You are the reason I almost had an NRX lol. 1 Quote
Fishinthefish Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 St croix legend bass tournament, in your medium with a fast or xfast and a revo stx in the appropriate size. Quote
offsidewing Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 St Croix Legend Tournament Bass 6'8" MXF rod and a Pflueger Supreme reel. Then you have $125 left over for some 6# Tatsu line and a bunch of Senkos and Fat Ikas. The St Croix 68MXF rods are the most versitle plastics rods I've owned. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 Talk to a custom rod builder and build exactly what you want. At that budget you can do a great build. Mike at Delaware Valley Tackle built a 7ft 4in ML Spinning for me and its outstanding. Got exactly what I wanted in the rod, paired it with a Stradic CI4. 1 Quote

If not custom I'd get a Kistler Helium 3 and a Shimano Rarenium ci4 plus. A spool of Tatsu or Sniper and your set. Quote

I give my wife the wacky pickle (her name for it) on an ugly stick and she usually catches more than I do! Granted this is off the dock at a vacation house in northern Michigan. Good for you on spending your money how you want though! My nicest spinning set up is a Fenwick Aetos on a Shimano Stratic FK ($350 total). It performs great for tubes, small swimbaits, and drop shots. Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 Shimano 2500 HGS (I'd lean Stradic or Complex at your price range) Thurteen En-V Black 7'1" MF Done and done. Quote

Have him build you the same rod, then add the CI4+ to complete the package. 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 $230 delivered is an awesome price for a custom rod. I might have to kick the tires on a swimbait rod Quote

We'll if I can ever "shake" a few hundred dollars out of the couch maybe I'll have you put a discount set up together for me. I'll have to be good the rest of this year. I think 6 new rods is enough for now Quote
