I was thinking about making a fluid bed for powder paints for painting my jig heads......I have just been using the jar the paint comes in and it seems to be working fine.  From what I have read about fluid beds they are supposed to fluff the paint, use less paint, and more evenly distribute the paint to the jig head.

At $100 bucks for a fluid bed, I think I can make one for at least half the cost.

My question is does anyone have any ideas, tips, pros/cons on making one vs. purchasing one; or am I better off just using the Jars the paint comes in.

Once you use a fluid bed you won't want to use the jars any longer.  I'm sending you a link to a tutorial in a pm.

I made mine pretty cheap.  I got the directions from cadman.  very easy to do, and you can make the extra cups very very cheap so you can have a different cup for each color.

I got all of my supplies from, Menards. You can try  Lowe's or Home Depot as well, or maybe your local hardware store.

My pump came from Wally World and the rest from Lowe's.  Total was about $30 and I have enough pvc for at least a dozen cups.

I got mine from tjs's tackle form around 50 bucks.

That is where I bought mine but this thing looks very easy to make. The only thing I do not know where to get is the material for the cup bottom that is porus.

Following the instructions that JigMan sent to me I made my own fluid beds last weekend. Was pretty easy. Used vac bags for the filters, got everything else from Lowes. Attached is a pic of the finished product. I may have gone a little overboard.

Thanks again JigMan for the info.

quick question, so to have extra cups, do they have bottoms in them? I am assuming they do, but how does that work if you are just putting in a paper bag or filter and then inserting the cup?

The bag or filter is bonded with silicone to the bottom of the extra cup then you have a top to put on it so the powder paint won't spill.

I'm working on re-writing the instructions so that we don't have to keep sending PMs to everyone.  I'll try to get them posted this weekend.
