Blues19 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Went fishing with my girlfriend for a first time a few weekends ago and we caught quite a few fish. She was using an old Ugly Stick and shakespear reel. Not a very good combo. She mentioned she wanted me to help her go pick out a new rod and reel. Her birthday is this weekend so I got her a little soft tacklebox that I am going to put some stuff in like a starter kit. I'd like to stick the reel in there too. Im pretty set on the Pflueger ladies President reel, just dont know the size I should get. I plan on putting 1/8 and 3/16 oz weights and some lizards and baby brush hogs in the box with some hooks. She doesnt fish tournaments or anything, but really only fishes for bass and I may take her to fish for some crappie this spring. WHat do you all think on the size? Any suggestions? Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I would say the 25 size of it comes in that 3 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 2, 2016 Super User Posted March 2, 2016 I'd go with the 6925. Will balance nicely with that weight class of lures. You also might want to take a look at the Berkley Lightning Shock series of rods. A light action model in 7' length would go nicely. 2 Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I just bought my wife the same thing but I went with a size 35 because she plans to use it for both Bass and Trout. She already has a 7ft. MH rod so that should match up well. I myself upgraded from my current spinning reel to a Pflueger President Limited Edition (size 35 as well) and can't wait for fishing season to begin . 1 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted March 2, 2016 Super User Posted March 2, 2016 I have Presidents in size 25 and 30. They would both be fine for what you want to use them for, but I think 30 is a better all-around size. The 25 is an ounce lighter, but the spool is pretty small. 2 Quote

LunkerFisher Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 i use the 30 and the 20 size. for bassin, definitely go 30 3 Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Not to thread-jack but do you think the size 30 is a better all around reel than the size 35? My wife and I both have 7ft. MH/F rods that they're going on. 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Trait Crist released a Wright & McGill pink rod spinning combo carried at Walmart. Check out #pinkrods. Or look up Trait Crist on Facebook. 1 Quote

Size 30 is lighter weight and better for smaller diameter line, 35 is heavier but has a bigger spool that is better suited for higher diameter line and faster line pick-up. I do use a size 35 supreme on a 7' MH spinning rod. 1 Quote
smallie.mike Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 30 size is what you want. I also like the 35 size but I prefer bigger spinning reels. The 30 size is a just little smaller than a 2500 shimano and just little bigger than a 2000 size daiwa. 2 Quote

I just bought my girlfriend the 6'6' M/F paired with 6930 President! She likes it a lot I thought about the 7' but it was little to much. Nice combo though! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 2, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 2, 2016 My wife uses a 25 size reel on a 6' 6" ML and it works great. She mainly fishes for bass, trout, and white bass with it and it's handled all of them perfectly. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted March 2, 2016 Super User Posted March 2, 2016 Big fan of the 30. Overall great size. Spool size gets a little small on the 25 and the 35 is quite a bit heavier. 30 seems to be perfect medium for most anything I do ... Quote
junyer357 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 i just picked up a (non pink) 30 size for my fiance. I have 2 same size supremes and really like that size, especially with braid. I paired hers with an ethos rod from acadamy i was using for senkos til i recently upgraded to a dobyns champion. The ethos rod was suprisingly great for money. I have 2 more baitcasters i use for cranks. Quote
offsidewing Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I have found the 30-sized Pfluegers to be very versatile for bass fishing. Quote
Brett's_daddy Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Okay, so my wife currently uses an Abu Garcia STX30 spinning reel. Looking up the weight of that versus her new Pflueger Lady President 35 and it's 9.3oz compared to 9.9oz...we're talking .6oz difference here, do you think that's a lot and she'll get sick of holding it? Western-Mass-Bass Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Im gonna say the 30 myself as well. I have the 35 and feel it just a tad to big. Quote
