Thinking of getting the Fenwick Aetos in 7'9" HXF. However, I fish mostly dobyns and was curious if anyone can attest to the action of this rod?

EDIT: I'm also going to look at the EliteTech, since it claims to be "fast"

I can't attest to the action, however, you may want to rethink using a 7'9" rod for frogs. Most people, including myself, agree that the 7'-7'3" range is the best for hollow body frogs.

I'm with this guy. If you know you want a really long rod for frogs then go for it. But it would get too heavy for me to walk the frog all day. And it would be too long for me to effectively walk it. I actually use a 6'6" rod more than half the time for frogs, and I have no problems with it. If you're looking at fast action fenwicks, I can tell you that the new HMG's have a faster action than the older models. I have the 7' MH fast action, and I would consider it extra fast.

I also agree a little shorter rod would probably be better. I personally use a 7' 3" H/F Ethos and it's been the best frog rod I've ever owned.

I have that rod.  I've used it for frogs and it works ok.   I have a 7'3" Fenwick HMG MH/Fast rod that I use for frogs sometimes and it works ok.   I have an early 90's era Team Diawa 7' heavy action Muskie Rod and it works ok for frogs too.  Lots of different 7' to 7 1/2" rods that I own work for frogs.

My current thinking on that rod (7'9" Aetos Heavy) is that it is harder to store in my fishing truck and so I don't choose it as often as I choose one of the other rods.  That longer rod does throw frogs farther than the shorter rods.   Also, I think it is a great A-Rig rod.

I'd go ahead and get the rod.   Can't have too many rods.  If funding is an issue, then hold off for now.

Funding isn't so much of an issue, I'd just like to be safe/smart with it. I'll probably just get a Dobyns Savvy 735c.
