2014=shoulder surgery to shorten clavicle

2015=tricep re-attachment

2016=bilateral inguinal hernias to be repaired

Scheduled on March 7th, and probably going to be the earliest ice-out on record. If things keep going, my home lake should open around the 12th or so. The bigger bummer is I have a spot on that lake where, right after ice out for about 2 weeks, is some of the best bite of the year; absolutely stupid bite. I'll be out in a girdle if I have to....

I'll send pics...of fish...not me in a girdle

The fish will still be there. Might just take a little more effort to catch 'em. Hoping for a speedy recovery. I'm still recovering from my shoulder surgery last Nov. I'll get out on the water when I get out on the water.

I remember you mentioning that. What did you have done and how are you doing?

This is shoulder surgery #3 since 2010. This time they drilled a bunch of holes in my shoulder blade and reattached the lower trapezius and rhomboid muscles to the blade. Recovery is going well. 2-3 more months of PT with the expectations of having 70%-80% use of my left shoulder and arm, and hopefully pain free

Good luck with the hernia repair I had that back in Feb. 1998 have never hand a problem since. Lug and tug at component parts for equipment repairs every day. Just try to work smarter and not harder every day.

If I remember correctly it was the first couple of days walking around were like walking on glass and the first few days if in a car or truck were not the most pleasant. I believe dr. gave me off 4 weeks. Sort of remember being out a whole month with it.

Good fishing. Everything will go fine.

Sounds like you'll be good as new when it's all done. Thoughts and prayers go out for a quick recovery so you can start wrecking them asap!

Dude, me too. High five. We can be double-hernia buddies. I had surgery end of January and my weight restriction comes off tomorrow. I hope you have a speedy recovery!

Get out!  :high-five:  I'd love to hear more if ok with you. Open or lapro? How long before you felt like you could set a hook? How long before you could do a light gym workout? And at this stage, weight restriction comes off at only 4-5 weeks?, so you could do hard weight workout? I'm most concerned about when I can squat and deadlift again (after setting a hook of course).

Hope you are doing well!

Thanks! I'd definitely discuss all that with your surgeon. I also found the following helpful for reducing anxiety post-surgery.

http://www.uhhospitals.org/case/services/surgery/our-divisions/general-and-gastrointestinal-surgery/comprehensive-hernia-center/postoperative-instructions/groin-inguinal-hernias/laparoscopic-inguinal-hernia-surgery-care-instructions

I had one inguinal and one femoral, both on the same side, repaired lapro. Surgery was six weeks ago today. The recommendation I received was 10 lbs or under for the first four weeks, then two more weeks until any weightlifting. Personally I felt terrible up until last week, but my surgeon said it's fifty-fifty on the pain thing; some people are pain-free two weeks after or so. One of mine was a tear instead of a vulnerability so that may be part of the reason. I'm going to wait a few months until I squat or pull anything over a plate. Today is going to be the acid test because I've done very little since beginning of December aside from shoveling snow earlier this week. I can say that I didn't feel confident fishing within four weeks of surgery (we had some warm days and it was tempting). Your mileage may vary. Definitely bounce all of this off your surgeon though. They do this all the time. I'm also happy to answer any further questions you (or anyone else, this is pretty common) may have based on my experience. :lol:

^^^Thank you for the link and some info on your experience; much appreciated. I'm confident everything will be fine. We'll see how it goes.

Take care and good luck with your lifting. I'd love to hear some updates!
