RHuff Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Went into my local Dick's Sporting Goods looking for the new Shadow Rap Shad and saw a box of these puppies on the end of the isle. No luck with the SRS yet wasn't on the shelf but gladly picked up these instead. I've been wanting to get these all winter. Got home and before the wifey took a nice long bath I rigged one up and gave it a few laps around the tub water. I must say the action on these things looks great. Can't wait to give them a try here in a month or two. Quote
MDBowHunter Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 I think the snakeheads here are going to love them noisy flappers. My local DSG had the rap shad in stock and on the shelf , I didnt buy any though I'll stick with my visions and pointers. 1 Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Just got some too, but I'm still iced out on my favorite pond so won't be able to try these for a couple of months. PS, I love the smell, they seem to have gotten the Berkly powerbait smell figured out... Quote
ErikmonBillsfon Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 (edited) I hate the smell. Its like squid fermented nastiness. I love the frogs though. Never used keitech or swimbaits at all until this year and the keitech swing impact fat is my new favorite lure. I love to throw stanley ribbit frogs all summer long in the scummy weed filled ponds in CT. The Keitech noisey flapper might be better. It has a unique flap Ive never seen before and it has the keitech "trait" where it flaps at any speed. The Keitech floats almost Ive even thrown it on a 3/0 -5/0 keel weighted swimbait springlock GAMA hook and found that it would never flip over on its back like other brands love to do. I want to get the black and Blue color too for white cloudy days. I also like the craw version the crazy flapper as a jig trailer or T-rigged. Only downside is they are like bulky. They have tall broad shoulders. They are extremely hard to rig straight at first with just a regular 3 -5/0 EWG hook. Very awkward to rig until you get the hang of it. I learned how to work a hollow frog most of the time last year, but one of my best friends loves this lure after he caught a bunch of bass and pike on them. It almost looks like the ship that Star Fox flys from the old N64 game. Edited March 1, 2016 by ErikmonBillsfon spelling 1 Quote

They are a bit fat in the middle which might make it tough to set the hook. I use the Ribbit Double-Take Hooks for my other frog baits and that has worked out very well. It should do the trick with these too. Quote
PAGreg Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 I bought several packs to try in place of the standard Ribbit frog. Because they are so thick, I'm rigging them with a 6/0 Beast hook. Should get a lot more hook in the fishes mouth with the big gap on that hook. Quote
Hillbilly Bennett Posted February 8, 2017 Posted February 8, 2017 I am a huge fan of these frogs. When I can't get bites on any other frog, these babies get bit. I have had issues with hookup ratios but that's to be expected when froggin. It's just frustrating to miss a big one in the slop. Quote
