50 LB braided line-only frogs?

I just attended a fishing expo in Southeastern Pennsylvania. I picked up a nice baitcasting combo there. As I was walking out, I bought some 50 lb braid from one of the vendors and he lined my baitcaster. I know this setup would be ideal for topwater lures like frogs but I was just wondering if it could also be used for lures like crankbaits and soft plastics? Or should I attempt to buy a seperate spool in which I can easily switch the braid out for Floro or Mono? Any suggestions would be great!

I have used it for square bills and swim jigs and really like it. It would work great with most bass jigs around heavy cover.

I use 50lb on my frog/swim jig/chatter bait rod, and my flipping/pitching/punching rod.

30lb on my "general purpose" 7' MH casting rods

20lb on my cranking rod

10lb on spinning gear.

50lb braid is what I use for flipping vegetation as well as frogs.

50lb braid for single hooks for those times when you think to yourself, "I probably shouldn't but am going to anyway. "

I like using it with jigs too. I'm sure it would work fine for other applications as well

That about covers it for my braid use as well.

However some of the latest / next generation of braids to come out are showing a higher lb test size with same or smaller diameter.

Both Daiwa Samurai Braided & Seaguar Smackdown Braided Line have crazy small diameter for their rated test size.

May or may not be advantageous - depends on the application.

50 lbs is great for HB frogging in thick vegetation, other applications would be, heavy jigging, flipping and pitching.

I like braid for everything. I'll use a CX leader in open water.

Ditto. 

Except for punching. For me that's a min of 65#

Braid isn't exclusively for froggin'. You can use it for whatever you like. I like using it with with frogs, pitch/flip, hollow body swimbaits the most. I know people who have used braid for everything and they like it. I say give it a shot, even at 50 lbs that's about the diameter of a lot of 12 lb lines. If you feel so inclined you can add a leader, but even that's not a must.

Other than my frogging/flip pitch rod:

• 55lb braid on my Spinnerbait/Swim Jig rod and love it - grass is no problem anymore. 
• 40lb on my c-rig and all around rod
• 30lb on my 'heavier' cranking rod.  I throw alot of lipless on it as well as chatterbaits.  
• 20lb as my main line on one of my spinning setups.  

I do run straight Mono or FC on some rods, but braid is great line.

Agreed... my min to punch is 65lbs.

I use PP Maxcuatro 50lb on most of my baitcasters. The Senko, Frog, and punch setup is 20, 65, and 80 respectively. Maxcuatro is 12lb diameter with 50lb strength, so it's extremely versatile. It's going to take something special to get me to change.
