Hogsticker Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Any owner / user feedback would be appreciated. Stability, fishability, durability, etc. It seems every yak or canoe I research has one or two things that turn me off. I like this hybrid design, the layout, and the weight should make car topping a non issue. Being only 31 inches wide, the primary and secondary stability have me a little concerned. I'm hoping the hybrid design and the shape of the hull will provide greater stability. I've toyed with the idea of a Jackson big rig, but I don't want to trailer it, plus I know I'd end up dumping a ton of money into it. The Ocean Kayak big game sure looks nice, but I really want slide tracks. So I thought I had decided Feelfree lure 11.5 or even a Moken 10, but I've read a few complaints regarding the softness of the hull, and I really don't care for the seat in the lure. So I guess what I'm looking for is the stability of one of those wide yaks in a lighter more hybrid craft, which is what led me to this. I see there is supposed to be a propel version coming soon. That should really be ultimate. Also, are you guys running a rudder on your ultimate? Quote
GetBent Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Look for info at www.texaskayakfisherman.com you might find a few people with experience with that yak on there. I think my friend had/has one? I moved a few years ago and fished with him about 5 months ago to catch up with him. Anyway if it's the same yak- he said he likes it just need a bilge pump and stay away from high winds. Quote
Allen Der Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I have a wilderness systems commander 120 which is very similar to the native ultimate. it's a good compromise between stability and weight and as long as you arent fishing big open water, i think these hybrid kayaks are a better choice than a lot of the sit on tops out there. find somewhere locally that you can demo an ulimate or commander before you buy one. The Ultimates are super customizable, as well. If money were no object, I'd probably get a Hobie, but since that's nowhere in my future, I would jump at the opportunity to buy an FX12. Secondary stability is fantastic, as well, given the pontoon design. I have no problems standing at all. Additionally, no, I don't have a rudder, but I did rig mine with a MinnKota C2 30 that I steer with the foot pedals, and I rigged a control box on my left hand side. Works awesome. Quote
Hogsticker Posted February 29, 2016 Author Posted February 29, 2016 Thx Darren. So how is the stability compared to one of the more popular sit on tops that are known for stability. Yaks like the Coosa, Lure, and big game? Better, worse, same?? Unfortunately there is nowhere remotely close to demo anything. Quote
