Super User F14A-B Posted March 2, 2016 Super User Posted March 2, 2016 Can you all prove it won't? 2
PourMyOwn Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 To each his own, I'd rather have someone walk into my office smelling like vapor than a cigarette. Â (I quit cigs 5+ years ago-never again) 2

quanjig Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Considering the carcinogenic known chemicals associated with vaping are minute or trace amounts as compared to those in a cigarette, I'll keep doing what I'm doing with confidence! 1
Super User F14A-B Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 You guys can do what you want, I get it. But you all are saying over & over its safer than Cigarettes or compared to Cigarettes. That's not exactly the standard by which I would want to compare to. Surely, you read the individual who posted saying his addiction to vaping was much more intense than his addiction to cigarettes was. I'm not judging you guys either, but I'm not seeing the logic here.. This poison is less toxic than another poison logic.. Remember your betting, & trusting that what your being told about vaping is true. This was exactly the same method used by big tobacco 60 years ago.. 4

This was exactly the same method used by big tobacco 60 years ago.. This is exactly true, I prefaced my original post to this topic as vaping is harm reduction. We all know smoking is bad, period. I did not jump into this lightly, I read articles, joined a forum, asked questions, listened to how this "helped" people quit cigarettes. Nicotine in this capacity is no more harmful than caffeine. 1

River Dave Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I think vaping is a great tool to use when quitting smoking. The fact that you can actually step down the nicotine content over time to eventually wean yourself off it altogether is a huge advantage over other methods. I did the cold turkey route (17th times a charm!) but I know a few people who quit by vaping and it worked. The one thing I just don't understand in the non smoker who takes up vaping and doesn't go nicotine free. My son did this and I just don't get it, you have a way to "smoke" without the addiction and he chose  to buy juice with nicotine. It took over a year but he now has himself weaned almost completely off the nicotine by stepping it down little by little. My wife quit smoking when I did and really missed the whole ritual of smoking (holding it in your hand, blowing smoke etc) so now she vapes too but with no nicotine. She enjoys it but isn't addicted so, while I would prefer she didn't do anything, it's better than smoking. I still worry that all of that moisture in your lungs can't be a good thing. I certainly don't have any hard stats but I have two sons in high school (neither of which vape to my knowledge) and they've told me that they estimate 70% of the kids in their school vape and only about 10-15% smoke cigarettes (way different than my day!). 2
I.rar Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Â The unflavored I vape daily is kosher usp vegetable glycerin, nicotine and a bit of distilled water. I haven't heard or read of anyone dying from any of those? 1
Super User Catch and Grease Posted March 3, 2016 Author Super User Posted March 3, 2016 IÂ think comparing cigarettes and vape devices is like comparing apples to oranges, only thing in common is the nicotine (If you even vape nicotine, many people don't.) If your gonna compare it to cigarettes might as well compare it to caffeine, everyday pain relievers, fatty foods, sugar, salt, sleeping aids, lead fishing weights, yadda yadda... They all are bad for you or "kill" you as some of you call it. I never smoked cigarettes, I've tried it but never got to the point I was addicted then I picked up vaping when I turned 18 and it was legal for me... I didn't use nicotine starting out I only used zero nic juices, now I switch back and forth between zero and 3ml nicotine (the lowest dosage most companies make) because I like the buzz I get from nicotine and it gets me a lot of the same effects I got from caffeine which I recently stopped using as much because I want to get off soda. Asbestos was a great tool for insulating back in the day too.... how's that working for folks? Yall are nuts to jump on inhaling anything into your body when there is no medical research on it yet. The only thing you can say is 1) less nicotine...2) no second hand and 3) no cig smell. Yipppeeeee! I picture lawyer commercials within the next 5 years "if you or a loved one smoked ecigs within the last 5 years and your lungs melted please call bla bla bla... you may be entitled to a cash settlement"  No thanks.   GJM 3
River Dave Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Please don't quote me out of context. I'm saying it's a good way to quit smoking as in quitting altogether not just trading one habit for another. The same post you took that quote from which you then used to make me sound like some pro vaping/pro asbestos (????) moron said that I think vaping is bad for you. I'm not going to fight about it on a fishing forum but I don't like the way I come off in your post. 2
MDBowHunter Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Again to each his own, but to everyone who claims its safer then cigarettes. Well it may be safer to walk in front of a moving car then a moving train, but they'll both kill you the same.Â
quanjig Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 Some truly stupid analogies. Asbestos, walking in front of vehicles. If you don't like it, and the people that do, it's all good. But to not understand it because you are too lazy to do the research and throw stones, you probably have bigger problems. I'm done GJM there has been quite a bit of research done on ecigs, if you're willing to look for it, or not, probably easier to lob that interwebz grenade!! You want to see something funny so to speak? Look up possible side effects of FDA approved smoking cessation drugs or for that matter any of the new drugs on the market today. Makes you wonder! 1
Super User J Francho Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 Wait, all you put in there is nicotine? LOL.
Hurricane Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I quit drinking a couple of years ago..  A lot of things in this world are bad for you.. I smoke cigarettes.  Not proud to say that I do. I enjoy it.. Congrats to all of those that quit... Hoping to attempt to quit smoking again soon. 1

I know tons of people who completely quit altogether using vapes, you can steadily keep lowering your nicotine level until you don't need to vape or smoke anymore. 1
Super User J Francho Posted March 4, 2016 Super User Posted March 4, 2016 Cold turkey works the best - both drinking and smoking, or anything else destructive that rules your life. 1
S. Sass Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Yeah if I was drinking I had a cigarette guaranteed. It was just the way it worked for me. I quit smoking and the drinking went with it. Had to reevaluate my friends list as to who was going to help or hurt my choices/chances. Can't run with alcoholics and expect to quit drinking successfully mentality. There is no doubt it is extremely hard to quit addictions. But it can be done. When the person decides they want free they will quit with the excuses. That is the early tale tale sign they really get it and are serious about getting better. All the chit chat to justify an addiction is just a way to try and hide the problem. Once free from the addiction you see the excuses stand out like Trump on a good hair day.   2

Once free from the addiction you see the excuses stand out like Trump on a good hair day.   I'm glad you were able to overcome your addictions, I truly am. But everyone is different. You seem almost militant that "it's easy once you make up your mind." I'll bet those that have heavy addictions to opioids and alcohol should be just fine if you told them to "man up!" So to speak. I don't think you get it one bit. Some people don't have the mental fortitude to make those kind of life choices without professional help. I have friends going down that rabbit hole and you are right, it's tough to see and I have no choice at this point but to distance myself from them because they refuse any and all help offered to them. To group all those that choose to vape as a means of harm reduction to tobacco as weak minded is garbage, having gone through some of these things yourself, you should know better!
Super User Catch and Grease Posted March 4, 2016 Author Super User Posted March 4, 2016 Not everyone has the willpower to quit cold turkey, in fact a lot of people go back to smoking because they try cold turkey and get overcome by the withdrawal effects and never try to quit again... 1
