livemusic Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Do you guys have a method of keeping up with what line is on each of your reels? What, exactly, do you do, keep a journal or what, lol? Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 26, 2016 Super User Posted February 26, 2016 A sticker on the reel foot. 5 Quote
5fishlimit Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Those little round mailing stickers you can find at any office supply store work really well, and are removable. You can stick it on the rod, the reel, or the reel seat. I know some company makes a rubber band type product with line information. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted February 26, 2016 Super User Posted February 26, 2016 With 22 or so rigs in the boat I needed a system to keep track of line - so I went to stickers on the reel. Mixed results in that some of the time the stickers don't stick, but most of the time they do. Taking this a step further - occasionally you need to re-spool - or whatever. I generally find out about rod & reel maintenance needs when I am fishing. At the time, it isn't such a big deal in that I can generally use another rig. What has helped me is to keep a set of wire on tags in my truck. When a reel needs to be re-spooled or there is a rod issue, I wire a tag on to it when I'm putting gear away for the day. Then, when I 'm in maintenance mode in the fishing shed it is easier to see what needs to be done. I've found that if I don't make a note about stuff I tend to forget it. 1 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 26, 2016 Super User Posted February 26, 2016 I keep all my fishing data, including line data for each reel (brand, type, lb test, when installed), on multiple worksheets in an Excel spreadsheet. 4 Quote
junyer357 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I keep it simpler and only use a few lines. If its clear line on a crank or wire its 12# invisx. Green mono on a crank or wire is 10# sufix seige All yellow braid is 15# power pro slick8 Green braid is 40# 832 for my frog. Worm n jig rods get 16# sniper. Occasionally in the winter i will drop down to 8# and will use invisx then as well but its only on 2 crank rods. Quote

Let me know when you figure out the right answer Luckily I don't have any rod and reel combinations that are the same otherwise that would further complicate things. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 26, 2016 Super User Posted February 26, 2016 I keep a document on my laptop that's stored in my email so I can change it up from my phone if I need to. It's mainly for keeping track of what combos I have. I do list what line is on each reel but since I'm a braid/leader user that part is stays simple with #30 braid on all of them. Quote

I do limit myself somewhat on pound test used, but have several brands I'm trying. ML or Light = 6# mono, Medium = 8# mono, MH = 12# mono. Naturally there are exceptions. However, Sufix Siege Neon Tangerine is easy to keep track of. I've got to try an Excel spreadsheet. Seems like that would be the easiest method to keep track. Provide I kept it updated properly. Kevinator1 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 Fatsack app on my phone...it's free and you can upload pics of your gear and enter all kinds of information like rod type, reel type, line etc.....it's really nice. Sorry Goose...i use Excel spreadsheets way too much at work to enjoy it for my hobby....lol. Quote
Maggiesmaster Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I use a piece of duct tape and a permanent marker on the reel.. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I tear off a tiny piece of masking tape and write down the # and type with a fine tip sharpie, then put it on the reel foot that's facing the rod. So if I take a reel off I'll see "15 PP" or "20 InvisX" etc. Also, I keep track of rod/reel pairings on a spreadsheet. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted February 27, 2016 Super User Posted February 27, 2016 Little stickers. Quote

RiverDave Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Most smartphones have some kind of notes app built in. Put the basic information in and it's easy to update. I bet your phone is always handy. Also helps when you go shopping and want to remember what you have. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted February 28, 2016 Super User Posted February 28, 2016 I put 15lb on my baitcasters, and 10lb on my spinning reels. The Ultralight gets 6lb. I don't have a lot to remember. 2 Quote
