Brett's_daddy Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Okay, I would like a versatile rod that i could fish several different types of lures with...anything from senkos and craw fish to crank baits to smaller swim baits to top water. Right now the rods I'm looking at are as follows (in no particular order): St. Croix Rage ($60) No. 8 Black Out ($80) Duckett Ghost ($99) There may be others but those are the 3 I've found that pique my interest. Obviously the less money i have to spend all the better as I can put it towards something else. I'm thinking 7ft. MH/F would be the most versatile rod length/action for most all of the lures/baits I listed above but if you have other suggestions I'm all ears :). Quote
ethan-333 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 duckett is a good rod. caught some hogs on it flipping and throwing wacky rigs. another rod to check out is the denali jadewood. 100 dollars and an well built rod Quote

JustinU1X Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I didn't have very good luck with the ghost and braid. Reds gear has an okuma tcs for $104 and they have a $10 coupon. 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I bought 2 Rages but sold them both. Didn't care for the handle. Abu Garcia Villain is $79.97 at Bass Pro right now. Quote
Rbm18 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I know its few dollars more but the Dobyns Fury is a nice rod. $109.00 3 Quote

ItsTig Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The rage for $60 sounds like a pretty hard to beat deal. Have you been able to get your hands on all these rods and see what feels best to you? Take into account what is most important for you, sensitivity, power, feel, etc. I've been looking around at medium light & light rods abit lately. I was impressed with the new Lew's TP-1 Speed Sticks. The blank felt light and sensitive, and I was surprised how much I liked the Winn grip handle. They are $100, top of your budget, but worth a look. Quote
robster80 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 id pass on tbose and get a dobyns fury 2 Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I have the 7' MH Duckett Ghost and it is an incredibly versatile rod. Very sensitive, light, and durable. I highly recommend this rod Quote
S. Sass Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I personally haven't used Fenwick but I know I have seen more than a few times people here saying these rods are not a bad rod. Fenwick HMG GT73MHF Casting Rod 7'3" one piece rod Medium heavy rod power, fast rod action $58.88 at 41% off it might be a steal. Also you mentioned the St. Croix but not the Mojo Bass Casting Rods. The MBC70MHF rod is a nice all around rod and at $89.00 40% off and Free shipping its hard to beat. yes its not the latest greatest newest model but it was just a short while ago and they are very nice. They have several models to choose from but I emailed St. Croix and asked a similar question as yours and that is the model they suggested I try as a somewhat all around rod for me and the soft plastics and spinner baits etc I throw a lot. You might try and email or call them and see what one they suggest for you. But I am very pleased enough that I bought another. I agree Fishin' Fool I dislike the Rage handles but some do so that might be a option as well if you like that grip I just don't care for it either. 1 Quote
GoRavens Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I have the 7' mh ghost. Very nice rod. Plenty sensitive. Ive usedmmostly braid on it and some FC. With that said I just got a Daiwa tatula xt rod but haven't used it yet. It was 94$ Quote
DCales84 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 As mentioned before the Ghost series of rods are nice. I wouldn't say they are the finest rod at the $100 price point but they are better than most. As with most EVA foam handled rods I found the Ghosts handle to be a bit slick so I added some shrink wrap grip and it's much improved. On my 7' MH Ghost the only thing I've used that I did not feel it handled well has been spinnerbaits... Esp larger baits around 1/2oz or more. Jigs, T-rigs, weightless senkos, and smaller crank baits can be handled easily. I will also chime in on the Falcon Bucoo series of rods. I have 3 different Bucoo models and the 7' MH is a true workhorse. It has handled everything the Ghost has and will also handle spinnerbaits and larger cranks easier. Again the Falcon needed some attention on the foam grip but aside from that if you can score one at less than retail it's a great all around rod and I'm pretty sure it's American made. Quote
Chris186 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I like Duckett rods, but not so much the Ghost. I had a 7'3 heavy that snapped on a hookset with a 3/8oz jig. I would get the rage, actually just bought one myself. There was a place i saw last week that had the old Duckett Macro Magics with the 20yr warranty for $100 Quote
xDirty Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Abu garcia veritas 2.0 7ft, i prefer the medium but medium heavy might be more versatile. The falcon bucoo 7ft mh is nice, i have the micro guide version and while its nice i probably would just get the regular version and save 30 bucks. Honorable mention, the 40 dollar berkley ylightning shock rod 7ft mh is a very nice for the money, a little bit on the heavier side in comparison to the other roads i mentioned but still very nice for the money Quote
paleus Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Check out the Abu Veritas and Vendetta. The Vendetta seems to be a little stiffer than the Veritas. Both under $100 1 Quote

Both under $100 What about the Villian on sale at Bass Pro Shops for $79.97 right now? Normally $179.99. $79 qualifies you for a Abu Garcia sweatshirt for S&H costs. Quote
0119 Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Get the biggest for your bang! Go to pure fishing's close out web store and get a $150 Fenwick Aetos or Smallmouth rod for 50%. Better rod than paying full retail for a lesser rod. 1 Quote
EmersonFish Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Buy the Rage. Great blank for such a low price. Cut off the black cover on the handle. You can shape the foam underneath a little if you like. Wrap it with tennis racket grip tape. BOOM! Quote

Super User MIbassyaker Posted February 26, 2016 Super User Posted February 26, 2016 With the St. Croix rage closeouts, I bought 4 casting rods this winter, every one under $100 (not counting the reels, of course): 2 Quote
