Jake the Cake Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I use Strike King Mini King spinnerbaits for when bass are finicky or I'm trying to catch a limit (Which is more times than not). What does everyone else use? I'm perfectly satisfied with the Mini King but it's always nice to know what other options might be. 1 Quote
JGBassinAL Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 The War Eagle Mike McClelland Finnesse Spinnerbait is awesome. Has the longer skirt in the middle to act as a trailer and pulls through cover great. 6 Quote

Love those I caught 10 bass throwing them last Saturday in a stump filled lake and never lost one, pulled thru the stumps, underwater pad stems, and laydowns with no hangups. Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I prefer a Strike King Rocket Shad. It'll hang up more than a typical safety pin style, but if I'm concerned with that I'll switch out hooks. I change out blades a lot too. I'd rather use casting gear and it's heavy head takes the work out of it. 3 Quote
Jake the Cake Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 I've been looking into those Rocket Shad for casting purposes as well. The Mini King is and always will be the most productive spinnerbait I've ever owned but unless you're throwing with the wind, you can't cast them the distance that I would prefer. Hang ups are the only thing that have really shied me away from those and at $3.50 a pop it can't fiscally compete with the Mini King. I love throwing that thing around nasty weeds and brush which ultimately ends up with quite a few lost baits. Is there such a thing as a Weedless Swinging Bladed Swim Jig? Like a Freedom Lure Hydra, with a weedguard, and a Colorado blade. I think I'd be in heaven if someone came up with this design. 1 Quote

There is a tree on one of ponds I fish that looks like a Christmas tree, just decorated with Mini Kings 1 Quote

mrmacwvu1 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 if i want to go compact I like to throw inline spinners many of times that bait has kept me from getting skunked it is just not a small fish bait either have caught many smallmouths over 17 inches with those 1 Quote

How long are those arms on the Compact Spinnerbaits? I seem to have more success with blades that are as close to the skirt as it can get. Guess I could always bend it to my liking because those skirts colors are impressive. That Bluegill and Bloody Shad!?!?!?!?!?! Killer! I definitely agree with inline spinners working like magic. I haven't had much luck with them in lakes but they're unbeatable in rivers. 1/8 oz Yellow and Silver Rooster Tail is all I need for a limit in the river. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 25, 2016 Super User Posted February 25, 2016 Another fan of the Rocket shad except you have to wrap wire around the hook or risk it coming off in a fight . That has happened to me a few times . 1 Quote

evilcatfish Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Haven't used them but I've been eyeing the 33 Mini and Elite Low Pro from Nichols. They are definitely intriguing Quote
Jake the Cake Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016 Put in an order for Siebert Compact Spinnerbaits. Pretty excited for those Bluegill and Bloody Shad skirts! Quote
tander Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I use a bait by Old River Lures called Mr. Hootie. It is local bait that is pretty popular in MS and LA. It comes in all weights but is smaller than your average size spinnerbait. It comes with the old style skirt and has the twist tie instead of the r bend. Really a good bait. Quote

PennBass Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I bought one of them NorthStar Compact Series spinnerbaits from TW a while back. Even though it's 1/2 oz, a lot of the weight is hidden behind the head, giving it the size of a 1/4 oz. bait. The weight design also helps a lot with casting, and it doesn't helicopter at all. Highly recommend. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted February 27, 2016 Super User Posted February 27, 2016 I make my own on a hidden weight head using a smaller frame. The bait in my avatar is a 3/8 on a 1/4oz frame. Allen Quote

Jaderose Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Good Old H&H Spinners. 3/8 oz. Cast one close to a stump and let it flutter down. KA-WHAM!!! Love them and have a bunch of them. Best thing about them other than the fact that they just flat work is you can find them on the 'Bay for less than $1.50 each. So losing one doesn't make you cringe. 1 Quote
Frenchman83 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Most of my spinnerbaits come from G&G Bait Company. Quote
