MaineBassFisherman Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 So, I"m looking to buy a new baitcaster because I want one with an aluminum frame. I"m completely stuck between the Pflueger Supreme and the Quantum PT Accurist, it seems like a lot of people on here would prefer the Pflueger, but iv'e also have good luck with my accurist spinning reel. Anyone have any experience with either of these? EDIT: Also considering the Abu Garcia Orra 2 SX Quote
SenkoGuru Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I've never owned or fished with the Pflueger or that model of quantum but I just wanted to add my opinion. (Remember I'm not a quantum fan at all) I've owned the Tour Quantum that were $300, I own Quantum Smoke 150 baitcasters and Energy reels. I have had massive problems with the Quantum ACS controls. One cast will be perfect and with no changes to the reel the next one will be a bad backlash. Out of all the baitcaster's I own, which include Shimano, Daiwa, Lews, BPS, Abu, Duckett and *** C, the Quantum reels are the only one's that do this. So I wanted to say if this is your first Baitcaster I would look at something other than a Quantum Baitcaster because IMO, the ACS is the worst braking system on baitcasters. 2 Quote
MaineBassFisherman Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 Oddly enough you aren't the first person I've heard say that about quantum, it's not my first baitcaster but I also love reliability so I will probably opt for the Pflueger. The abu is pretty nice too, but I checked the Pflueger out at my local store and liked the feel of it. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted February 25, 2016 Super User Posted February 25, 2016 I've never owned or fished with the Pflueger casting reels - do love the spinner however. I have & fish a couple of Quantum PT Accurist casting reels - along with over two dozen other Quantum casting & spinning reels. My experience with the brand spans several years and has been quite positive in every respect; from the quality & durability of the products to the customer service. In fact I purchased a new one just last night (QUANTUM TOUR TKVD150HPTH Limited Edition ~ sweet reel, one of my favorites - have six). Your experience may be different. My advice, buy what you want, fish it and see for yourself. A-Jay 3 Quote
zell_pop1 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Orra and Supreme are both nice reels, get the one you find cheaper. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 25, 2016 Global Moderator Posted February 25, 2016 I don't have the Supreme but I have the Supreme XT and really like it. I've never owned a Quantum baitcaster that I liked. Quote
EricTheAngler Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I have a quantum pt team kvd I would see to you. Just check the fleamarket. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 25, 2016 Super User Posted February 25, 2016 The old Accurist PT's were tanks...............as in reliable, well built, but a tad heavy. I had a bunch and sold them for "better" reels. It's a decision I regret. Former member "ReelMech" who is no longer with us (RIP) held the Accurist PT's in high esteem and compaired them favorably to the "gold standard" of lp bass reels the Curado's IIRC. I love Pflueger spinning reels, esp. the President, but have no exp with their casting reels. 2 Quote
MaineBassFisherman Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 So what I'm getting really is all these reels have their advantages and disadvantages, some people like them some dont. It's kinda seeming like they're all pretty much equal in that respect. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted February 25, 2016 Super User Posted February 25, 2016 I have several Quantum Accurists (older gunmetal color) along with a dozen other Quantum reels. Some people have issues with them, some don't. Some still consider Quantum to be junk since they are related to Zebco and thus not worth fishing. I mayself only fish fish 3 baitcasters now, some BPS reels, Quantum and ***. I will say if you go Quantum, make sure you stay in the "PT" line of reels. The accurist is a bit heavier then some other reels (8.1oz). You may also want to check Ebay and look around, last fall I got some great deals on the EXO line. May run you a little more ($10-40) but the line is sold and light. And if you do, the 6:6.1 in the 100 size is the same IPT as a Accurist 7:0.1. Just saying. 1 Quote

I thought he simply was no longer involved in sponsorship here. Very sad to read this. Quantums have been a love hate thing for me. I find them to work well yet I don't seem to keep them long, they just don't convince me that lp's are better than old Ambassadeurs. My fishin' buddy uses and abuses Pfeluger spinners and they just keep on ticking. Their casters being simply rebadged Revos or Orra's you should have no problem with them before your interest in casting develops into wanting better. Quote
Allen Der Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 $10 off pflueger reels on Amazon right now. I have no experience with the quantum but the supreme is much smoother than the orra. Quote

Based on my experience with the Accurist spinning reel, I ended up picking up the Accurist PT baitcaster when I bought my Penn Squall 15. If it doesn't workout I have my backup Shimano Caenan that works just fine. Quote
MaineBassFisherman Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 Alright guys, it's been three years now and I still use the Quantum Accurist on most of my outings. Has yet to fail ? Quote
DomQ Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 The accurist PT has a different breaking system then the ACS system. Much more reliable. Quote
