Pretty close, the bottom is similar to a standard 3700 and the top is closer to the slims. They are great boxes, TW or the Plano site should have the dimensions. Quote
Jim Hill Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 i'd love to swap to smaller boxes but I fish mainly for toothy fish, as said. Northern pike, musky, some small and largemouth too. The lures I have are hard to fit in smaller boxes, thats the only reason I don't use them. Those husky jerks and big daredevles take up space! 1 Quote

Jim Hill Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 The cabela's bag is only $59 and doesn't look so bad? I was set on a wild river one at $149 at first. http://www.cabelas.com/product/cabela-s-advanced-anglers-8482-backpack/1546939.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dfishing%252Bbackpack%26x%3D10%26y%3D6%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%252BProducts&Ntt=fishing+backpack Quote

They do...but look around and see what's out there - I'm in NW WI, not too far from you and fish a lot of similar water, I can't take all my stuff with me (that's what the boat is for!) but I can easily carry what I'll use on the river for a day. Jim Hill Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 yeah boat trips are few and far between, without a boat! 1 Quote

Gonna sound odd but I have a bad back and when carrying around my current tackle bag, it hurts eventually. Thats why I figured a backpack with support would be better. I carry everything I own in my current bag, which isn't a ton, but the space is super limited! I can only walk short distances so I figure a pack of some sort would be best. I have an Abu Garcia pack back and a sling , i use the sling everyday . You may find that sometimes all you need is a sling . And casting with one on is no problem Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted February 23, 2016 Super User Posted February 23, 2016 I didn't like the "fishing backpacks" I saw. Even bought a fancy looking Browning one and ebayed it pronto. It was a cavernous thing meant to hold several 3600/3700 boxes. The fishing packs I looked at -although this was a few years ago- just didn't have all the little details that make a pack really work for me. I ended up at an REI store where there is a huge selection and found a pack that works great. It's well thought out with more compartments to organize things, rather than having all the stuff rattling around in big plastic boxes. I carry smaller boxes each designated for a lure or technique type, which I can easily add or remove as water or conditions change through the season. I keep designated 3700 boxes too, but they are for warehousing at home. What I like about the pack I chose is the separate compartments for lure boxes, rain jacket, snacks, sunglasses, sunblock, etc.. . I esp like the many small pockets and sleeves within the front zippered "office" pouch where I can put terminal tackle, nippers, hemostat, thermometer, file, multi-tool, tape, scale, leader spools, reel spools, etc... Mesh side pockets hold water bottle and fish rag. Shoulder straps are well padded -tackle weight adds up quick. It's been durable too, in perfect shape after some years of use. I guess my advice is if you don't find something you like -and I suggest you really look before you buy- find a place with a big selection of packs and go to town. Quote
Bruce424 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 i wuld love te smaller wld river bckpack, but is so expensive. I own a red basspro bckpack, its alright holds alot how i have it setup but it gets heavy. Quote

As long as the pack weight doesn't get carried in the part of your back that hurts, it should be OK...and the waist bet should help with that. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I use a Kelty Redtail and couldn't be happier. I've tried a sling style bag, and 4 other backpacks, but this is the one that I've stuck with. It's light as a feather, has dual water bottle holders with strap downs that can be used to hold extra rods (I'll stick a water bottle on one side, and use the other for extra rods/reels if I want to bring any extra setups). It's the perfect size for a trip the lake, and light enough but has enough support to carry a bunch of stuff comfortably if you need to make a trek out to your spot. Quote
atcoha Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I use my kids used school backpacks for my bank fishing. They work fine for the 4 3600 boxes and several bags of plastics, plus the other stuff I throw in there. I use one of those bps tackle bags and speed bags on the jon boat. I really like those wild river bags, but just can't justify the cost over the few old packs thrown in my kid's closets... Good luck. 1 Quote
Sundance Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 I use the BPS Deer trail daypack $20. The bottom front compartment holds 8-10 bags of plastics, the top front holds megastrike scent and KVD line conditioner and inside can hold 3 3700s and a camelback all for $20. Quote
Jim Hill Posted February 24, 2016 Author Posted February 24, 2016 its up to 2 backpacks im considering to buy, the bass pro one and the tackleware house one. Both well within my budget, just having a hard time deciding but I think the TW one has better space for 3700's Quote
