Adkfishing Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Hey i'm 16 years old and starting to more frequently enter competive tournaments. This summer i'm thinking about joining a local b.a.s.s club. I need suggestions on a new punching setup. Alot of the tournaments are on flipping waters. Heavy braid, high gear ratios and broomsticks.... I'm currently looking at the iROD genesis II 7'11" bub's punch rod. Is that too long? I'm about 5'9" 150lbs. I'm wondering if i should step down to the 7'7" or will the 7'11" work? I'll be using 65lb braid and i like the benefits of a moderate/fast action rod because braid has no stretch and i don't want to pop the hook out of fish in mats. Or will the fast action and 7'7" rod be okay all thoughts appreciated. My price range is that $150 dollar area but i'm kinda flexible bc i work if you have a better suggestion -ADK Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Your stature shouldn't prevent you from using a 7'11" Rod but for munching mats with 1oz> weights I like an Xxh mod fast. This will help you land more of the hookups you get. Quote
kingmotorboat Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I use a dobyns fury 765 and love it Quote
Airman4754 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I'm 5'10" and use Bub's punch rod all the time. It's a very versatile rod. I would recommend it. Quote

I don't believe size matters (I'm 5'9-5'10). I got it for a steal here on the flea market. My advice is get a rod that balances with your intended reel. Having s balanced rod will really relieve strain on certain muscles for day long Matt punching. Quote
Kyle46N Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Just kind of an FYI, my local Dicks Sporting Goods had a couple Loomis GL2's on sale for half off the other day. One was a heavy punching rod. 110 bucks. They sell for 210 normally. I would scout around on the internets and onlines to see if these things are on sale elsewhere. Quote
