tstraub Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Last year I was doing maintnence on my reels and used the wrong tools and tequniques to remove the spool pin from my quantum Team KVD baitcasting reel (model kvd100hw-j2). I broke the spool pin and learned a lesson on using the right tool for the job. After I broke the pin I did manage to get the pieces out of the spool and put it back together using a make shift pin I made out of a drill bit cut to lenght. I fished it all last season and it worked ok but alwasy had a rubbing noise while casting. I'm sure the noise is that make shift pin rubbing the reel frame. Anyway I'm getting my gear ready for this season and would like to get a replacement pin for this reel. I'm just not sure where to get a pin. I don't know if they are a standard part that fits many brands of if I need one made for that exact reel. Thanks for and advice you guys have. Tyler Quote
a1712 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Call or E-mail the Manufacturer. Brian. 1 Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted February 21, 2016 Super User Posted February 21, 2016 you can try Brian at The Tackle Trap. He can source pretty much anything. You could also call Quantum and probably just get one shipped to you for free. They are a cheap replacement if they charge you. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Some manufactures won't sell just the pin. You have to check a schematic and see if it has a part number. Also, a spool pin doesn't come near the frame. I'd be concerned that it's rubbing the pinion by not disengaging properly. Check to verify that the shaft is still straight and the rest of the spool is not damaged. I'll be surprised if a new pin will fit properly after something else being pressed into the hole. Be prepared to buy a new spool if it comes to that. Quote
tstraub Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Thank you guys for your responces. I sent an email to the Zebco/Quantum support center. Hopefully I can get a new pin at a reasonable price. I don't think the spool itself is damaged. I didn't press anything into the hole. My make shift pin is a lose fit in the hole I think thats why its rubbing on something it does not stay centered it just floats around until it rubs whatever it's hitting. If it comes to needing a spool I'll probably just keep using it as is. It was an ebay buy and I only got it because it was part of a lot deal so I'm not sure how much I'm willing to invest in fixing it. The thing sure does cast well so I would like to fix it if its a cheap fix. Tyler Quote
tstraub Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 Just a quick update. I have been trading emails with Zebco/Quantum for a few days now. They have always responded withen 1 day and been very helpfull. They just needed all the info to make sure they have the correct part. The Email they sent today explained that the pin is not serviced by itself. It's only serviced as the whole assembly(spool, bearing, and pin). Then he asked for my address so he could send me one. Didn't ask for and money just an address. Great customer service Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 That's a good deal. A spools $30 give or take with shipping. Quote

tstraub Posted March 9, 2016 Author Posted March 9, 2016 My replacement spool came in today so I put a drop of hot sause on the bearing and installed it in the reel. I spooled it up with 12 pound Berkley big game. Then took it outside and and threw a crankbait around for a few minutes. Its casts like new again no more rubbing noise. Tyler Quote
