Michael Gay Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 I plan on re building my aluminum boat it is 14 ft and I'm wondering both how high I should make the deck and what floor plans to do I'd like to also put a live well and some storage in it. Thank you for your help. Quote
no39 Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 The higher the deck is the more you raise the center of gravity. I use to stand on the benches quite a bit and used that as a starting point. As for the floor plans, I sort of just ran with it. I just made a rough sketch and refined it as I went a long. Here's a few pics to help you with any ideas. Quote
Super User gim Posted February 21, 2016 Super User Posted February 21, 2016 That is pretty good man. Well done Quote
Michael Gay Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 @no39 what metal did you use to make the decks? Quote

Scarborough817 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 @no39 what are the measurements on this boat? i wanted to do this but i have a 14'X38" and i doubt its wide enough to be stable Quote
no39 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 @Scarborough817 I believe the beam was 60 inches. The boat became a bit more stable with the addition of three batteries and the decking. Although I lost about 5mph top speed. Quote
Michael Gay Posted February 23, 2016 Author Posted February 23, 2016 @no39 approximately how many feet of aluminum tubing did you need? Quote
no39 Posted February 23, 2016 Posted February 23, 2016 @Michael Gay don't recall quite a bit. I remember running out a few times. If I were to give it a number I'd say about 72 feet, but a lot of that was because I added five compartments that greatly increased how complex the framing needed to be. With a simpler setup one could easily get away with 32 feet or less. There's a website you should check out if you're interested in ideas. It's called tinboats.net and it's pretty much just guys doing conversions. A lot of good info. 1 Quote
JIGFISHERMAN. Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 on smaller v or semi v boats like this a little weight makes a big difference in stability. I would run a 24v trolling motor for that reason alone. Keep a full gas tank and livewell too Quote
Firefish Alumacraft Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 What size outboard are you using? Quote
Michael Gay Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 @Firefish Tracker I'm using a 9.5 hp Johnson Quote
Firefish Alumacraft Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 With the added weight and added construction to the boat you prob get away with a 15hp or 20... Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted March 2, 2016 Super User Posted March 2, 2016 This started out as a almost bare hull. Jeff And this was my other boat before this one. Jeff 2 Quote
