Just wondering how long it took any of you guys who had it done to get to a point that you could fish pretty hard after surgery and things felt good.

Can't take my pain any longer and getting it done next Monday the 29th. as long as scheduling goes ok.

I'm heavy industrial electro-mechanical on the job. I'm sure I'll have some downtime on the work scene, Just hoping 4-6 weeks will be max on the fishing scene.

I feel good about my upcoming bass season on the river. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks, Spank.

4-6 weeks is about right.  I had my right hand done a few years ago and it was a great decision.  I couldn't take it anymore either.  Just make sure to follow the doctors instructions afterwards.   It can get very tempting to start using your hand too hard too soon.

I'm not a fishing expert, but unfortunately I've become and expert on wrist surgeries - both sides for carpal tunnel and both wrists had the pisiform bone removed (years of weight lifting and computer mouse).

As far as carpal tunnel - no brainer, have the surgery done.  Instant relief and quick recovery since you're not cutting bones, ligaments, etc.. I'd say 4 weeks you're pretty close to healed, but you might favor it slightly mentally for awhile but you're structurally fine.  I was playing volleyball and spiking the ball after 1 week.  ticked off my surgeon when I came back in with popped stitches but it didn't hurt.  6 weeks would be longest I would think but use your common sense - not like I did at 21 when I had it done.  FYI - I turn 54 next week and the carpal tunnel repair is still holding up well (just don't do wrist curls, or other weights that torque the wrist).  56c9da80823e7_Wristphoto.JPG.a855c76ba84

X2, mine was an Ulna clearing, it got to the point that all I had left was the use of my pointer finger and my thumb, don't over do anything, listen to what your doc says it's really important but work your hand as much as you can within those guidelines.

I had mine done the second week of Feb. last year and was out there chucking and winding without any discomfort on tax day. I'd been on the water a couple of weeks prior, but cut the trip short (4hr.) because of discomfort.  I'm 65 and had zero physical therapy after the surgery. Deep cranking was the only thing I couldn't tolerate, even six months later. I ended up changing the way I hold the rod to accommodate prolonged cranking

Just listen to doc and take care of yourself and you'll heal up quick.  I had it done in the good ol days and it was a little rougher.

Guys thanks. I believe I'm still on for Monday to get it done. They saw something in my EKG that they didn't like but they will most likely do it so I'm told. Can address that later. If I'm about 100% buy May 1st I'll be a happy guy. I have a grandson that I've been getting into fishing so I think I'm going to be like a personal guide and work with him on his trout fishing in a few creeks close to home here. I think I'll get some self satisfaction by just doing that. I got him hooked up with some waders and shoes over the winter to get him off the banks as he's been fishing the last few years. Got him hooked up all the way around.

Just need to get it done. Can't take it much longer. It's bad enough while working. And if I have a weekend when I consider fishing hard for two days, and I'm NOT as extreme as a lot of you guys, by Sunday it feels like my hand is falling off.

Might be good to just take him and coach from the bank...you don't have to fish but can sit back and enjoy what our good Lord created along with watching him.

Well yesterday was the big day had the surgery. Though touching a fishing rod, shooting sporting clays or hooking up my boat seems a long way off I just need to heal up. I feel like I regret it right now but it will be the right thing a bit later. Grandson will have a personal trout guide in a few weeks. Looking forward to that.

Surgery must have worked because my hand did not go numb during the night. May have been uncomfortable the first night but not numb.

Thanks for the responses. Good Fishing.

Glad to hear that things are happening as expected.  You'll be back to your normal activities soon and you won't have to deal with the pain and numbness.  Don't forget to :others-142:
