Wiley X Sunglasses

Anyone have these? Wondering specifically how the quality of their lenses compare to either Maui Jim or Costa, which IMO are the standard of quality lenses.

Ive worn them in the service. Great for flying debris and such, never tried them for fishing. Is there a fishing specific version with polarized?

I have a couple of pair....but my lenses are rx, not the standard wiley x lense... wish I could wear off the shelf glasses...

I have a pair of Costas, Oakley, and Wiley X all polarized. The Oakleys are for driving and the Costas and Wiley Xs are for fishing.  The Costa 580G are my favorites,mainly because I have color perception problems, but on a sunny day the Wiley Xs do a great job.  They will scratch a lot easier than the glass lenses, but if you do a lot of high speed running from spot to spot, I'd trust my eyes to them.

I have Wiley X and the Costas. I agree with your original comment that the Maui Jims and Costas are top of the line.

I have Wiley for motorcycle riding but I didn't like them for fishing. I use Maui Jims for fishing and I love them! I can just see better in the water with the Maui's.

Are your Maui's prescription?  I have heard how great their glass lenses are but their  RX are plastic lenses... are they as good??  I was quoted $729 for a pair of Maui Jim progressive lenses and they're not even glass.  Maybe they're great but that's a lot of Yamasenkos if you know what I mean ...

No they're not prescription. I'd have a real tough time dropping $730 on a pair of glasses.....real tough time.

Papa, wondering how you would rate lens quality for fishing for Costa, Oakly and Wiley X.  I've had Oakley prescription for the last 3-4 years and honestly don't think they're anything special... hoping the others are better but maybe not as expensive... Maybe I'm dreaming... but hope not --

I'd give the Costa top honors, but any Rx lenses are made for your prescription and I don't think you can compare them to ones that are made specifically for dealing with the sun and reflected light.  The WileyX would be my choice if looking at cost. Mine are four years old and get a lot of use on the water. Take care of them and they'll serve you just as well as Oakleys.

I teamed with Wiley X a couple of years ago after I heard about their dependability when dudes used them in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq. I have almost every pair that they make. While I cannot compare them to Costa or Maui because I have never owned them, I can tell you that I have owned several other brands and WX are definitely superior to them.

The main differences are the fact that all Wiley X frames and lenses are impact rated (some even ballistics rated) so a 1/2 oz jig flying back and drilling you in the glasses is not going to destroy your eyeball like it would with some non impact rated glasses.

Some styles even have a removable gasket that goes on the inside of the frames to keep, wind, light and debris from getting in your eyes.

Wiley X goggles are also really awesome for those long boat rides when the wind, rain and bugs are smacking you in the face.

 

Something that is big with me, that some of you may or may not care about but Wiley X is a military veteran founded, family owned and operated company.

 

Probably my favorite pair out of all of them are the WX Saints. These are the glasses that Bradley Cooper (playing Chris Kyle) wore in the American Sniper movie.

 

On a side note, for you guys that are looking for RX lenses, I would definitely get the WX Digital lenses. They are much more sharp and crisp than the non-digital lenses. I normally wear contacts and non RX glasses but I do have a pair of Wiley X P-17's with digital RX lenses and my kid has the Wiley X Youthforce glasses with digital RX lenses.

I agree with Bagwell. I'm a sunglasses dude!  I have Costas, Maui Jim, Wiley X, Original Rayban, Persol and many others. 

I worked Police Patrol and wore the Wiley's on duty to protect me from flying glass debris from shot out windshield, the ones with a rubber gasket for motorcycle riding, and the gradient style for a stylish look. 

   Several pIr of Mauis:. Aviator style and brown lens and dark gray lens. All are glass and light but a little fragile. Maui replaces lens for about $70. Wiley's are a polycarbonate which is tough. But DO scratch. Ballistic protection is its strong suit. 

   Several pair of Costas. Tried the 580p and are very light and stylish but fragile frames. 

The 580G glass models win over Maui because of crispness and clarity. Green Mirror is my fav all around. But Blue mirror for ventures in salt water  

vintage B&L lens Raybans for nostalgia look  Wayfarer and Clubman are my favs  

i  believe ONE pair of sunglasses does NOT perform ALL your situations  and I hate threads  touting "I got cheaper sunglasses than you!! Nah  Nah!"    Would you buy a Pacemaker  for your heart because you can get a  really cheap one?

    I'm not above aesthetics as I have some "Steve McQueen Persols" that are foldable so  can keep one in my shirt pocket  

Wiley is excellent for you guys with fast boats  sticks and sand and tree limbs have bounc d off mine easily where a Maui would have shattered and put glass in my eye  When I get to where I was running, the Costa 580Gs come on

I just got a pair of Wiley x Nash rx with bifocal,polarized,black frame ,gray lens and blue coating  can't beat it for $240,I use them for work,driving,fishing very comfortable good polarization not gonna spend $700 for Costas to be rx sorry

I have a pair of Wiley's with the gasket I bought when I was a gun nut.  I liked them, but could almost never wear them as they would fog up constantly.  All wrap around glasses do that to me to some extent, but the gasket made it way way worse.

I've been using a pair of polarized Wileys with a Rx for the past year and I'm completely satisfied with them.  I can't comment on oakleys, costas or similar brands simply because there is no way I'm spending that kind of money!
