DumBassFishin Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Ok so there is a pond by my house that i usually fish with great success and today was 70+ degrees here so i went there to fish and usually there is a lot of vegetation (i just fish the little pockets with a weightless worm) but when i went there there was nothing. Aside from a few submerged branches it was basically an underwater wasteland. I could not see this before, because of all the vegetation, but it is extremely shallow. Its about a foot deep with a muddy bottom for about 6-7 feet, past that idk what. Any way, in short: -Shallow, as little as one foot deep, possibly a drop-off -Mostly small bass, under 2 pounds, occasional 3-4lb -No vegetation, rock piles, stumps or anything that I can see -Muddy, but ~1-2 foot visibility -What the hell do I do please thanks Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 21, 2016 Super User Posted February 21, 2016 I would try a marabou crappie jig fished real slow . Quote
THE_Vue's Posted February 21, 2016 Posted February 21, 2016 Kick dirt rub the bottum with a square bill crank. Try to spark a life in that dead zone you speak of. If that don't work you can't go wrong with a senko Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted February 21, 2016 Super User Posted February 21, 2016 Try a light weight Carolina rig and learn the bottom contours & structure. A C-rig can tell you alot, as well as catch you fish. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted February 21, 2016 Super User Posted February 21, 2016 Try the mojo rig! Glenn just posted a video of it. Quote
DumBassFishin Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 So I'm taking it that the best bait to use is something that kicks up muck and dirt? Quote

How do you know the entire bottom composition? If you suspect their might be a drop, but haven't truly determined it, then what proof do you have their isn't hard bottom somewhere on the lake/pond bottom. A C-rig can help you to feel lots of structure types, as in gravel, chunk rock, sand, pea gravel, hydrilla, as well as any wood that may be in the area. The better you know the bottom contours & structure, the better your odds at making contact with fish..there could be some sweet spots out there. You need to learn this. Quote
DumBassFishin Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 Ok ill try and see what the bottom is like. ill be fishing this pond a lot so i might as well know what the bottom is like. there is actually a feeder creek with a rocky bottom. i dont know where that rocky bottom ends though.
