Peide01 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Just got an avid x in and Im waiting for my reel to come in. The question is, with the micro guides will I have an issue running a fluorocarbon leader with braid on this rod? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Micro guides come on a range of sizes. 50#/17# will pass a 4.5 no problem. Quote
Peide01 Posted February 20, 2016 Author Posted February 20, 2016 Perfect, thank you for the response. I hope to test it out this week so I can use it on the water this coming weekend. I plan on running 30#/12# Quote
Peide01 Posted February 21, 2016 Author Posted February 21, 2016 I am thinking the fg knot I've read so much about recently. What would you suggest? Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted February 21, 2016 Super User Posted February 21, 2016 The knot will pass but it may take a little out of your cast because even the smallest knots hit micro guides. Quote
n8cas4 Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I hate microguides for any braid with fluoro leader Quote
Peide01 Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 Yeah the more I read and practice knots the more I think I will run this rod with just fluorocarbon. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 Why do feel you need a leader ? Can you use a shorter one? Quote
Peide01 Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 I was thinking of running braid on this reel to be used for heavier shakey heads in clear water. To be honest I never used braid. I have used lot of fluorocarbon but definitely different in castibility category when compared to mono. Just heard a lot about the benefits of braid with a leader of fluorocarbon. Just trying to get away from the same thing as always and broaden my approach Quote
