It's a beautiful day in Michigan today so I'm playing with my rods in the front yard. When I compare my Dobyns Fury 705CB versus my St Croix Avid X 7' MF casting rod it doesn't feel like a $90 difference in price. Maybe the difference is more in the warranty but just in feeling alone I'd say they are on par. Anybody else have both rods and want to chime in?

I had a 7'M/F Avid, but sold it. Was too tip heavy for me. My Fury 704 is more balanced than the Avid, and is a good buy at its price point. Those St. Croix sure are beautiful quality rods, but balance is a major thing for me.

Personal preference but I'd gladly burn the extra $90 and I love Dobyn's.. IMHO, I find that the lower end Dobyns and Loomis rods aren't the best value.  At the Fury/Savvy pricepoint, I'd be looking at a Fenwick Aetos or the Avid X.

Do you like the Dobyns Champion line? I bought a Champion Extreme but in a 7'6" ML as a drop shot, NED rig, finesse rod. I don't think it's the best representation of the Dobyns line.

I love the champion and champion extreme.  But I wouldn't call them "lower end offerings"

I gotta get me a Champion one day. Very impressed with Dobyns so far in the little experience I've had with them. Looking forward to getting some on the water time in soon.

I transitioned to all Dobyn's Champions and like them a lot. Right now I have:

- 683C

- 684C

- 702C

- 704 CB (and the 704 CB Glass)

-705 CB (and the 705 CB Glass)

- 736C

- 765 Flip

- 703 SF

Prior to that I had St Croix's in various lines and the old Cabela's XML rods. I LOVED the Cabela's XML rods as well but they were discontinued, didn't have the warranty St Croix and Dobyn's has and didn't hold up as well...
