DBatey Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 These little guys are ready to paint, I only made 2 the first time i made these. Its not the prettiest of baits, so I kept one and gave one to a friend. I have been doing extremely well on mine, and last week my buddy asked for more the so I decided to make another batch. They will all get paint in the next few days and i'll post them completed. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted September 19, 2010 Super User Posted September 19, 2010 Looks great Man! Did you carve those? A couple of years ago I took one out unpainted, just sealed, just to see how it would fish and man, a bass hit that natural wood finish like you wouldn't believe. Try one out! Looks great! Can't wait to see them finished! Quote
DBatey Posted September 19, 2010 Author Posted September 19, 2010 I don't have time to carve the bodies anymore, so i buy them. They do not have the lip slots cut or any weighting, which is where the "magic" lies in a good wooden bait anyway so I don't mind. I know what you mean about the non painted wooden baits, I took one a few years ago to test out and it was the best producer of the day, I caught 20-30 fish on that thing, unfortunately I also lost it near the end of the day lol. Steven Ladner Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Can't wait to see them painted Dwain Quote

For me, the carving and sanding is the fast part. Weighting and painting takes the time...LOL...Good luck with them! Can't wait to see the picks? Quote
Fishwhittler Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Very nice! They don't look ugly to me. Quote
OHIO Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 Looks like a great bait. Not sure why you think they are ugly. Quote
jr1945 Posted October 7, 2010 Posted October 7, 2010 look good with or without paint. where does a guy go to get circuit board? Quote
DBatey Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Thanks guys! McMaster Carr has the circuit board in sheets, and several of the lure parts places have the lips already cut if you don't need a special shape. Quote
NateFollmer Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Great stuff. Wouldn't expect any less from you though What's the advantage to circuit board lips? I never really found a good answer to that question... Quote
Vodkaman Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 You get to play with the more technically oriented bass. Dave Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 8, 2010 Super User Posted October 8, 2010 Is that a deep diver? ;D Quote
DBatey Posted October 8, 2010 Author Posted October 8, 2010 Thanks everyone There are two different styles there, the difference is the lip angle. Two of them go about 6 feet deep and the other two go about 3 feet deep. Nate, Circuit board is basically just thinner than lexan of the same strength, therefore it cuts through the water easier. Usually you get a little bit more depth out of the circuit board than the same size, but thicker, lexan lip. The down side is they wear faster on rocks and such, so you can wear out a circuit board lipped bait a little bit faster than a lexan bait. You can still get several good years out of a circuit board lipped bait even if you only crank rocks with it, so its still a good choice. Quote
NateFollmer Posted October 8, 2010 Posted October 8, 2010 Ah thanks for the explanation. Dave, I want to see the action on that lure. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted October 8, 2010 Super User Posted October 8, 2010 WOW! they came out very nice...Good luck with them! Quote
SkilletSizeBass. Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I think they came out looking good. nice work Quote
MattyIce Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Baits look great... Can I ask which circuit board that is? The g10 I get from mcmaster Carr is dull yellowish Quote
DBatey Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Those were precut lips from Jann's The guy these went to called me the day before yesterday to tell me thank you because he and his son-in-law took the baits to the lake and caught 10 fish from 2 1/2 to 6 lbs. Thats why I make a few baits from scratch every now and then. I went yesterday to the same lake and caught a few fish in the same range, but I lost my 6 lber at the boat haha. I was throwing the first one of this design that I made. Quote
DBatey Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 Oh and I didn't have the KVD trebles on the bait unfortunately, it will have them before I throw it again haha Quote
