patrickg63 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Hello I needed some information on swimbaits, I had a few questions. So im new to the whole big bait fishing and i bought a few lures, I have a huddleston 6in, black dog shell cracker, and jackall Gantarel. My questions are, When do I throw these? and Will they be effective in the pre-spawn. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 20, 2016 Super User Posted February 20, 2016 Throw 'em as soon as the ice melts, and right on through. Swimbaits are effective year round. If there's bass in the area, and they're eating something that looks like what you're throwing, you're gonna get bit. 1 Quote
HookdUP Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 They're most effective now to the spawn. Then the shell cracker will likely be more effective the summer . I may throw a few hudds today if I get off my finesse cranking binge Quote
MDBowHunter Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Last year one of my best days was throwing a shellcracker during the pre-spawn 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 21, 2016 Super User Posted February 21, 2016 My guess is the shell cracker is a G2, not the wooden slow sink 5 1/2". The bluegill wake bait or slow sink swim baits are good wherever the bass are targeting them, pre spawn through spawn and summer. Cool water period is a good time for the 6" Hudd, ROF 5 or 12, pre spawn thru the spawn. Tom 1 Quote
