I'm comparing these two Avids for throwing lighter baits in the 1/8 to 1/4 oz range, but haven't put my hands on either rod yet.  Appreciate any thoughts from users of these models as to which has advantages over the other. Thanks!

Both will work perfectly for what you desire. The XF shuts off quicker, has more a touch more backbone /w its tip and is 3 inches shorter. That's pretty much it. Just comes down to preference after that. I prefer the 69mlxf for almost everything if I'm using a spinning rod.

I have used both but don't own either. I have both in front of me at my local shop. The AVS70MLF is better for light finesse rigs. The 69MLXF is a better drop shot rod. The XF gives you more  backbone. I'm probably picking one of the AVS69MLXF up for drop shot fishing.

Agreed. I personally like XF action for fishing finesse, jigs, tubes, worms and all bottom contact lures. It let's me set the hook a bit better since it's all about feeling the bite then setting, it cuts my delay a bit.

As for the length just think of it in terms where/how you fish. If you do wading, kayak or bank fishing, the 69mlxf could be better for casting in tight places with overhangs. If you're in a boat and have no overhangs to contend with, the 7mlxf will cast further over all.

I have a 610mlxf LTB and a 66mf avid and the LTB is much stiffer compared to the avid. Its still very castable woth light lures but just feel sturdier. I like that for bottom cobtact, but you may not.

My 2 cents. Good luck! Either way......it's a St Croix haha

I have both.  Use 70mlf for 1/8-1/4 tubes and the  69mlxf for drop shot

69mlxf

Hey. Is this the rod that's rated from 6-10lb line? I'm looking for something that is below the 10-17lb line rating for light weight jigs. But the 6-10lb rating seems really light. I'll probably be using all 12lb line, maybe 10 on occation. It looks like St Croix deleted the 7MLF rod from the Avid lineup.

It's still available on the St Croix website
