bassguytom Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 I am going to Sanibel Island Flordia in April and am going to go snook and redfish fishing. Last year I bought a nice used combo at one of the local tackle shops but it would have cost too much to ship back. One piece rod. My question is does anyone know if a good telescopic rod that would work for this application? I just have no experience with these rods. Any info. Is appreciated. Quote
Florida Cracker2 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Somewhere along the line I ended up with a Mitchell telescopic rod and it has been sitting on a shelf for years because I don't feel it would handle anything over 5-6 lbs. But I have never used it...it just feels flimsy. Quote
KDW96 Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Id look into getting a 2 or 3 piece travel rod personally. Then if you had too ship it, it would be ALOT less, plus youll get a better rod Quote

A 2-3 piece rod that has at least medium action should be good for light inshore fishing. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted February 20, 2016 Super User Posted February 20, 2016 Yeah, go 3-piece travel rods. If you are looking for a casting travel rod, I have one I could be convinced to sell. PM if interested. 1 Quote

If you really want a telescopic rod, you can look at these: http://www.allfishingbuy.com/Spinning-Rods-3.6-4.5.htm They're not things of beauty, and they're rather long, but pack down to like 2.7 feet. I've bought from these folks before. It's the place to go for hard-to-find-in-the-US gear that's commonly used in the Orient. I bought some pencil-style floats and a 12' long pole that's been a blast for super simple fishing (like a canepole). Quote
Superdumper Posted March 8, 2016 Posted March 8, 2016 I am in the same situation. Im going to flo in april and didnt want to travel with a full rod. Went With the okuma citrix 4 piece travel rod for 100 bucks. Looks like a good rod but havent used it yet. But the best part is it comes with a nice travel case already no need to buy seperatly. i went with the 7'11" heavy and will have it as a pier/inlet fishing rod. Please note, this is a casting rod, dont know if okuma makes a spinning version, never looked. Quote
