This will definitely have me looking at the Tatula platform again now that they were able to reduce the size of the frame.

The weight dropped a bit also. It's down around 7.2oz now. Swap out those bulky knobs and a carbon handle it'll be around 6.8oz.

For me it's the placement and texture of the brake dial.  If they moved the break dial up to where it was on the og zillion it would be all gravy for me

Hooray more Tatulas!

Said no one ever.

I really like the Tatula for the $90 you can buy it for. It's a great reel at that price. The way I palm my reels it's not too awkward for me. A slightly lighter and reshaped Tatula is okay by me. It's all these tws variants that I don't get. They released a new Steez sv and a 'zillion' sv103 but immediately followed those with tws variants.  I have no problem with a reel having tws but it's not the revolutionary design they are proclaiming and it seems that is what they're using to push these reels on the public. It's still nice to see that Daiwa is trying to keep up with Shimano on new releases.  Once these hit $100 I'll probably try one out.

I'd be interested in trying 1 out. I assume the potential line guide issues will be solved. Kind of curious the weight.

Yes, it uses the smaller 'shallower' t wing that's been being on the current zillion tws models. Nobody has mentioned any issues that I can recall. It's what Daiwa has been using to replace grooved t wings from the current Tatula reels. The Tatula ct weighs 7.2 ounces. The mentioned msrp is $169

Any reviews comparing old and new yet? I have the existing type r and normal ones and on most rods, it's non issue. On my Dobyns Fury 734 i find it a touch big/heavy with that combo.  No issue with my Dobyns Champion & Extreme rods.

At $50 more than the current version's discounted price, I'll be interested in trying.

It's being released at the classic so it should be available for purchase shortly. Retail is $130 for the standard model so it's priced about the same but the fact that you can get the Alphas SV105 for about the same price as the R will make me wait until they come down $50 like the others did.

Goose on top of things. Thanks for the heads up.

And don't get me wrong, I think purple is awesome on reels. But does a purple but retainer make sense on a black/red reel? I know I'd swap that straight away.

I noticed that right away. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the ratio. Like the new Steez SV103 has purple for the 8:1 and gold for the 6:3. Reel pictured is 8:1 and the regular model pictured on TW is also 8:1 and has purple.

yeah that's an odd color combo and only on the CT, not on the CT Type R

i would like to have one in hand to see the difference in size vs the OG model

That is the type R. The regular doesn't have a red hood.

pics on TW are backwards or something then.  TW pics show red retainer on the type R and purple retainer on the regular.

on TW, the reel with the red hood shows a red retainer.

I don't think they have any righties in the Type R yet, Daiwa sometimes releases lefts and rights at different times.  It's nice that they kept the 90mm handle on this version.  I like the Tatula handles and knobs.   Hopefully they won't do purple accents on the high speed version but that seems to be the color they use on the XS reels.  I will probably get a Type R if you can get them for the same prices as the original Tatulas.

TW has them up already. Type-R righties are sold out already. $179.99 and the reg is indeed $129.99

So now the Fuego and Tatula are the same exact price...interesting decision by Daiwa to say the least.

I only have experience with the Tatulas.  How do the Alpha SV105 or  Fuego compare? Seems like with the Tatula's now smaller in profile, people are comparing them with the more finese Daiwas? Welcome any thoughts as I'm on the look out for a new reel.

I mostly bank fish and sometimes rent a boat in my local reservoirs here in North Cali. I have Dobyns rod exclusively, 2 cranks 704c/705c, 2 general purpose '4' power rods FR734/DX744. Welcome any recommendations.

Thanks Rippin. Any chance of a side profile shot? especially the height? what's your impression?
