Ok so i got a ML spinning rod rated 6-10 lb line and a size 30 spinning reel with 6/145 and 8/130 but it looks a little too big for my rod. Is it bad that my spinning reel is too big or is it close enough (there is also a size 25)

also the rod is rated 1/8-1/2 lure weight. it is rather strong for a ML IMO.

You will be fine. Probably better off with a bigger spool.

The ml I use is rated 1/8-3/8 and I regularly use 5/8 with it no prob. Have fun and catch some fish!

I use 2000 or 20 size reels.  They balance much better.  If your using flouro then the larger spool may be nice.

2000 shimano and 20 size pflueger are completely different.  20 size pflueger is ultra light and equivalent to a 500 shimano.  OP, I like 25 size pfluegers for ML rods.  30 size would be fine too if you like the balance of it on the rod

wait how did you know i had a pflueger....

as far as I know, pflueger is the only brand that has 25 and 30 size reels.

Ohh. Ok.

My Abu Garcia Cardinal s and sx were both 20's

I stupidly took them saltwater fishing and didn't feel the need to clean them, hence the new reel.

My sx felt perfectly balanced, maybe just because I used it so much. My Trion is bigger though which is why I made this topic.

ill most likely use #6 p line cx. should i downsize?

the 25 might be the same size as the 30 but with a larger spool. if thats the case then the line will be a bit more manageable than with a smaller spool.

6# is a good light line size. i would not downsize unless you really feel the need to.

what are you going to throw with this rod?

welllll its my only rod atm so...everything.

i dont use a lot of lures and i will be purchasing a new baitcaster for my rod soon so it will most likely look like this

spinning: shakey head, wacky rig, weightless fluke, small weightless worm, squarebills

baitcast: just t -rigs (which is why im hesitant to buy another reel)
