Yes, its a nice fish, but I have to say way to go on fighting the undesirable conditions and staying with it! I also fish from a small boat (an inflatable pontoon) and I always say, "If we wait for a good day we would hardly fish at all!"

Anna is a special place and offers some special gifts from time to time, what a great story and a truly great catch man, CONGRATS !!!!

I think the record LMB for Anna is still at 13lbs even, keep going like that and you will break that record.

Beautiful fish! If you don't mind me asking where did you launch? I have been having trouble finding somewhere to launch my kayak!

Here's the length girth calculation: 10.416666666

where did you get that number?

fish calculator gives 8.85 pounds for 25'' by 17'' bass

You signed up just to drop this comment?  Unless he's applying for a record who really cares if the bass is 8.5 or 10lbs??

Congrats on the fish to the original poster, must have been an awesome experience!

GREAT fish, that big girl is a pig!  I enjoyed the story of your well fought battle, because we all want to catch one like that.  Sometimes our best days are when the conditions are less than optimal.  Looking at the condition of her tail and girth, she was maybe thinking about doing the dance.  So to answer your question about holding her.  You didn't support her at the belly which is proper, makes for good photos.  Again, GREAT fish everythingthatswims

I'd want to know. Taking the time to get a length and girth suggests he's curious too. How often do we get to size up such a fish in person? Not where I live anyway. I'm betting everythingthatswims will be finding a few more such beasts.

That's the difference between a huge fish and a double digit.  I would definitely want to know if I caught a double digit fish.  Many anglers never get the chance to catch a bass over 10 lbs.

While this is true, the post just seemed pretty snide to me... especially since whoever it was took the time to sign up just to post that comment.

I'm not saying that I wouldn't want to know, I almost always have a scale on me while fishing for that reason.. my point is that arguing over the weight of a fish when no weight was ever recorded is complete semantics.  I just entered his stats of 25" x 17" into 5 different fish calculators and got 5 different weights...

Pretty sure since he knew to take length/width measurements he is also plenty capable of entering said measurements into the numerous calculators that are available via google to get a rough estimate.  My issue was not with you giving him the BassResource weight calculation, nor him wondering some guesses on what the weight might have been, as I said before I just found the original post I quoted to be in poor taste.  Fact of the matter is you'll never truly know how much it weighed if you don't weigh it... in my opinion fish calculators are just to give you an idea, there's way too many factors involved in how much a bass weighs for them to be truly accurate.

No worries. However, I didn't take any offense to the different number. I didn't develop the formula, and most probably won't. I don't know how accurate they are. But you're right, they are pretty much a ballpark estimate. A 2lb difference margin for error would certainly make one or both formulas pretty much useless.

How much she had to eat that day or how many eggs were in her belly isn't something I'm all that concerned with. A 25" bass with a head on it like this one did is a fish that wasn't born yesterday and being on the hot side, she has probably seen hundreds of baits. I'm too happy with the fish to be upset about not having scales with me :D

dude i am absolutely stoked for you.  double digit fish or not, it's an absolute bassopotamus!   and that is definitely a double digit grin on your face.  savor this moment and relive it often (like i have to tell you that right now, LOL).  this is what it's all about!

about formulas, the one i've found to be most reliable (based on the results of the calculation vs. the actual weight on a scale) is length x length x girth / 1200

but to me that's not the point here.  a monster fish is a monster fish.  and this is definitely a monster fish.  many, many, MANY good fisherman go a whole lifetime and never get to hold a bass the size of the one you just caught.  gratz man.  you deserve it.
