BisigBass91 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I know other jig colors obviously work, but I'm very interested in a possible edge in local tournaments. Mostly fisheries with both smallmouth and largemouth, but usually largemouth dominated. Would love to hear advice from anyone who uses them, especially if with success. I particularly like jigs with an ewg hook to make it even more weedless with a trailer on it. Quote
KDW96 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 The only other color of jig i use is a white. I could never find them,so i got into powder painting them. Turned out nice, with a white skirt, and a black/white skirt. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 16, 2016 Super User Posted February 16, 2016 http://www.siebertoutdoors.com/ Pick your poison, guys have every possible combination that is "special" for them. The most popular color is black with a blue trailer. Second is probably Black & Blue with a blue trailer. I am a big fan of PBJ and a matching trailer. Nearly everyone will also carry some variation of Green Pumpkin. 1 Quote
Scarborough817 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 i use a black football with the siebert alimony skirt i feel like it provides a nice accent either with a jackall darts hog black & blue with charteruse tip trailer or an uncle josh black & blue craw Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 16, 2016 Super User Posted February 16, 2016 Bright isn't something normally associated with jigs. You may be referring to bright accent colors. Take a look at Barlows Tackle, skirts layers for reference. Star flash, metallic foil, etc are bright skirts layers often mixed with the more natural fish scale, barbed wire strip etc. Both LMB and SMB eat crawdads, nothing bright about a live crawdad and bass don't have a problem finding them. Most good jig anglers prefer using natural colors with a few highlites and contrasting color patterns. So.....what do you mean by bright? Tom Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted February 16, 2016 Super User Posted February 16, 2016 Not sure what you consider to be a bright color? I like black and blue, green pumpkin with chartreuse, and green pumpkin with orange. These are what I use the most in dirty or muddy water with low visibility. I have had decent success with a combination jig using black, purple, pink and bit of blue. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 16, 2016 Global Moderator Posted February 16, 2016 I do well with sapphire blue. That's a pretty bright color. 1 Quote
BisigBass91 Posted February 18, 2016 Author Posted February 18, 2016 When I say bright, i mean like a chartreuse, white, or bright oranges. Obviously swim jigs and other baits work with these colors, but you dont see many football or pitching jigs in these colors and I was curious if they catch fish as well. Quote
Super User WRB Posted February 18, 2016 Super User Posted February 18, 2016 I use a hair jig called Fritz by the late Skinny Harris he made for me named after Dave Fritz. The colors are: dark brown back, red center highlite area and chartruese sides and belly, similar to a crankbait brown/chartruese craw Dave used to when a major BASS tournament. The Fritz jig works best for spotted basss and smallmouth using either a brown or chartreuse trailer. What bass think a Fritz color represents is anyone's guess. If Harris hadn't sent the Fritz to try out, would have never given the color combo a second thought. Tom Quote
