Super User A-Jay Posted April 23, 2024 Super User Posted April 23, 2024 There is no doubt that the winters in the north woods are harsh & long. And the summers never seem long enough. But for just a few brief weeks in the April / May, and again in Aug / Sept, I am surrounded by what can only be described as World Class Smallmouth fishing. And I don't even need a passport . . . Getcha Some ! A-Jay 3 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted April 24, 2024 Global Moderator Posted April 24, 2024 As always, nice catches! What kind of surface temps are you seeing out there? Quote

I’ll do a post soon. This was a numbers year. Due to the early stretch of warm weather, we pretty much missed the first wave of big girls but we got into numbers and averaged 50-75 fish each a day and there were 6 of us fishing. Best was a little over 5lbs and we probably caught 10 in that weight class for the week. Great trip and we took 3 guys who had never been. They were in shock by the end of the week. 😂 5 1 Quote

People not from around here are in awe of our fisheries, and those that live here take them for granted just because we are so used to it. You guys should've hit the Detroit River for a day while you were here, the silver bass run is epic. I caught many master angler fish (16"+) and a few over the 20" mark. Even had some straighten hooks on me. I have yet to have a smallie do that. Those silvers are fierce, and they come through the river in the millions. They like to chase baitfish to the surface and when they're feeding, the surface boils. Early in the morning I throw topwater for them, and as the day goes on I switch to soft plastic swimbaits. 1 1 Quote

Is this what you mean by “Silver Bass”? There’s so many different names for the same fish. 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted October 4, 2024 Super User Posted October 4, 2024 Been some seriously tough sledding for this guy the past few trips. And it doesn't look like it's going to change much right away either. This entire first HALF of OCTOBER, the weather has or is forecast to be, TOO NICE TO FISH. Never though I be putting that one out there. Could a brother get a little cloud cover and some seasonable daytime Coolness ? 🥴 A-Jay 1 Quote

That forecast looks eerily similar to the one I check on a regular basis here in MN. The only difference is that mine is about 10-15 degrees warmer. Zero chance of rain and even minimal clouds. Kinda makes you wonder if we're in store for another fake winter. 1 Quote
