knot for fishing hollow frogs?

I know many people use the palomar knot for fishing hollow belly frogs. I was wondering if a loop knot like the rapala knot might make it easier to "walk" the frog? 

Ideas, suggestions?

If using braid. Braid is usually limp enough that there is no need for loop knot. With mono? Try it, if it works for ya then great. That knot helps me with other top waters so why not a frog.

It might but frogs are ridiculously easy to walk. The Palomar works fine.

Do not over complicate yourself, in practical terms you only need to know 1 knot but for crying out loud tie it well 100% of the times.

I adhere to such principle 99.9% of the time and the knot I use is the improved clinch knot ...... meanwhile I dare anybody to demonstrate I´m wrong.

There are several knots you can tie, and if done correctly they will suit you just fine for frogging, however the loop knot is not one of them. As far as walking a frog, the type of knot you use will not aid you, it's all about having proficiency and experience in the said technique.

Agree with that. I use SDJ for tying any line to hook or lure. Also, check out the really good site: http://www.animatedknots.com

Palomar works just fine. If I am fishing over mats where often times I have to winch in a bass with 10lbs of grass with it, I will use the double palomar.

I use the palomar knot on mine.  I'm rigged up with 55lb power pro, on a dobyns 766 flipping stick, and I can walk the bait with no issues.

I don't think any knot is going to help walk a frog better if you're using braid. The line is limp enough there shouldn't be any resistance. Just be sure you're giving the bait slack after the twitch so it's not trying to turn a tight line.

I like the Palomar for frogs and baits I can tie it on. Except for flippin and pitchin. Just the fact it's quick and I can adjust the tag end so I'm not cutting a lot of the bitter end off. Sounds funny but when your fishing every day your home you start wasting a lot of braid.

You could use a loop knot I guess, with mono I would use it and not think twice, but I usually just tie a palomar with braid and that works well for me...If you want better walking action, some frogs like the scum frog walker come with a split ring, I know this pulls the nose down, but I would trust a split ring more than a loop knot with braid personally, but that is just me...

Palomar or San Diego jam knot for me.  Used to be strictly a Palomar, but once I realized how easy the jam knot is to tie and how well it works with braid I've used that quite a bit too. Just whichever I feel like tying at the time to be honest, no rhyme or reason. I asked a similar question about the loop knot and walking frogs last year.. I've found my frogs don't walk as easy as everyone else says, but I think it's a combination of factors unrelated to the knot used.  I'm far from an expert at walking any bait (just don't have a ton of practice) and I think by design some frogs walk better/easier than others.  I fish a lot of livetarget frogs which from what I understand are somewhere in the middle as far as "ease of walking" goes in relation to hollow bodies frogs.  I have found that cutting about 1" off the "legs" can help and I've also cut one leg shorter than the other on some frogs, not sure if that truly makes a difference in the ability to walk the frog, but I've read it does!

I like the idea of being able to walk frogs back to the boat to potentially illicit a strike, especially in open water, but to be honest I don't find myself truly walking a frog very often, and it's still one of my top producing baits over the past few years.

I use a uni with a couple of half hitches. I really like the palomar, but I've never broken off 65 braid, and don't want to loose a long tag end every time I retie.

This is literally the knot I tie for everything 99% of the time with only TWO exceptions, drop shotting and Hollow Body Frogging. They get Palomar knots. The Frog gets a Palomar with a generous tag end. Raul probably had the best advice (as usual), tie the one you consistently tie accurately. It doesn't matter if its an Improved Clinch, Uni, Palomar, SD Jam Knot, etc. Tie the one that you can tie well.

Yeah, Rapala knot for me on this one.  I like it because it allows "a little more give," in the line for the bass to grab ahold of the lure.  More stretch if you will. 

But, in all simplicity,          a knot that does not fail is the one you use.

I double palomar all my braids and Gliss.  When you get down to really thin diameter smooth braids like Smackdown they can sometimes slip.  Never had a single one go w/ DP.  Might be overkill but I don't care.  It's my knot.
