I imagine the ProXS 4stroke is only going to be with the smaller motors. Now, they just need to introduce a 150 Vrod

I just picked up a new 2.1L 115 and was not told of the ProXS but from the specs it is the same 2.1L engine with 300rpm increase. Im thinking different fuel mappings and with allowing you to run a lower pitch prop helps with the hole shot and with low pitch but being able to spin it faster gives you the 1mph. Worth the price increase???  I would imagine in the next few years their will be a aftermarket programers for outboards with the 4s. like they do on cars.

Would this be a 2 stroke "killer"? I didn't know the 2 stroke needed "killing" lol.

Every engine has a end of life stage, and the epa keeps choking the boat engine industry

Some 2 stroke chainsaws have catalytic converters. I guess boats don't.

One thing that is probably going to bring 4 strokes demand up is the new electronics. Structure scan is changing the way many people fish and the way they drive their boats. 2 strokes are best ran at higher RPM. Many people are starting to have problems because of all the idling around looking at their structure scan. I'm not enough of a mechanic to say exactly whats happening but I'm betting all the idling around wouldn't be as hard on a 4 stroke. Just a thought.

Based on the Mercury 115 FourStroke, the new Mercury 115 Pro XS is 16 pounds lighter than the two-stroke engine it replaces and 18 pounds lighter than the nearest competing 115hp engine.

That's impressive.

Took the 2016 115 Merc 4s yesterday on the Illinois River out of Morris.  Took 2.5hrs to do the first part of the break in process for the engine. I have to say I will never go back to a 2 stroke for a fishing/family boat. At times I wasn't sure the engine was even running when at idle, but I have to say it put out a mean base sound around 1500-3k and around 4-6k it sounds like a indi car. I was very impressed with the low end torque and the high speed. Here is a video of me going WOT with a full tank, some fishing gear, empty live wells  I was able to hit 46 @ 5900rpm and with two guys we could 44/45 @ 5900.  https://www.facebook.com/cfabbi/videos/10206018955973548/

Im wondering about engine height on the transom, the transom is a 25" and the Merc is a 25" at the middle mount hole. The cavitation plate is even with the bottom of the boat, at 5900rpm at WOT and what feels to be a good trim angle and good water stream coming out  of the tell tail at times the engine will jump in rpm to 6300 and i have to trim down to fall back. I believe its ventilation happening,
