bigbassin' Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Has anyone ever tried fishing for Suwannee Bass in the Santa Fe River? If so, are there any tips or tricks to fishing the river for the Suwannees/Largemouths? Also, I'll be in a 8 inflatable with a 30 pound thrust trolling motor, will the motor be able to handle the river's current? Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 13, 2016 Super User Posted February 13, 2016 I've fished the Santa Fe a few times near blue springs.Caught a Suwanee bass that was app.2 pounds.I think I caught it on a red shad 7.5 inch culprit worm.It fought like a 4 pound largemouth. The current was 2 or 3 mph I'd say.To me,it was difficult to fish without anchoring.I caught the fish out of a shady cypress tree line. And that trolling motor will be very slow.I had a little 3 HP. kicker and it was slow against the current on the Santa fe. Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted February 13, 2016 Super User Posted February 13, 2016 You might want to have someone drop you off and float down to a take- out spot downriver. Quote
CanoeBasser Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 my buddy fishing there everytime he goes home he never stops talking about super flukes... maybe give that a try Quote
bigbassin' Posted February 15, 2016 Author Posted February 15, 2016 Well I went out there today just for a few hours from shore and got two off cypress trees like you had said N Florida Mike. Both were caught with red square bills. Thanks for the advice guys. 1 Quote
