Joey Battipaglia Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Hi i am going to bass pro tomorrow for the sale and am looking for a new rod for my new reel. I already have a 6:4:1 bait caster reel and a 7:0:1 Bait caster reel and i have a 6'9 medium heavy rod. What kind of rod should i get to be able to mix and match my reels and rods to be applied to the most kinds of fishing. Also with you answer can you tell me what my combos could be used for. The 6:4:1 has 10 lb mono and the 7:0:1 has 30b braid. The line can always be changed. Thanks so much guys! Joey B Quote
Dave Jakes Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Put the 7:1 on the medium heavy, if you like braid keep it on there and use it for your bottom contact baits (jigs, Texas rigs, ect.) and lures with thick wire hooks (small swimbaits, spinner baits, chatter baits) For the 6:1, I'd suggest a 7 foot-ish medium. With the 10 pound mono on there you could use it for smaller topwater baits, cranks, jerkbaits, and other lures that don't have real big thick open hooks. Between those two set ups you can cover probably 90% of your needs. Not ideally, but you'd certainly get by. Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 12, 2016 Super User Posted February 12, 2016 1. Decide what presentations you will be throwing and look for a rod that fits the specifications. Rod companies are printing the best techniques for their rods on the rod, itself, so look at the data. 2. Bring your reels with you and put them on the rods to see how they feel with the reel on it. We can give you so many suggestions it will scramble your brains. So look at the individual rods and read their parameters and what they are designed to handle and have a fun time. Remember, selecting a rod can take over an hour so go by yourself and enjoy every minute. Let us know what brand and rod parameters you purchased. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 Grab a med / mod-fast for shallow to med cranks with the 10# line. Quote

What brand did you select? This rod is extremely versatile. You can throw many techniques and baits plus use it to skip under docks and piers. You have made the Bait Monkey proud. Quote

Super User Sam Posted February 15, 2016 Super User Posted February 15, 2016 Good choice. My BPS Extreme and Cranking Stick rods are excellent. The Pro Tourney is a very good rod and will serve your needs in the years to come. Just don't forget her as you add to your rod count. Remember, you can NEVER have enough rods! Quote
