ranger7717 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 last year i used spinning drop shot hooks without any issues, but a fishing buddy of mine says that he doesn't think they are very good....says they're weak . drop shotting is something i do a small percent of the time, but plan on doing much more....any opinions on the spinshot hooks ? blckshirt98 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I got some of the spinshots and tried using them but I'm just way too lazy to retie them after a snag because of the two extra knots! I'm back to using the old palomar with the loopback (caught my first two bass of the year on it this morning to!). Quote
papajoe222 Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I don't see why your buddy considers regular drop shot hooks weak, after all it is for the most part a finesse presentation. If line twist proves to be a problem for you, a spin shot hook is a great way to go. 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted February 13, 2016 Super User Posted February 13, 2016 6 lb bass on 8 pound line and a mustad spin dropshot hook says otherwise. 1 Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted February 13, 2016 Super User Posted February 13, 2016 If they worked for you why does it matter what he thinks? 3 Quote
bassguytom Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I use them all the time without any issues. I like the ease factor. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 14, 2016 Super User Posted February 14, 2016 Your friend is weak. Kick him in the shins and never speak to him again. 4 Quote

Super User eyedabassman Posted February 14, 2016 Super User Posted February 14, 2016 I never had a problem with them being weak! I fish the VMC spin shot and in fact I fish two Spin Shots on one line. I can cover more water and depth that way and sometimes get two bass at a time. Quote
no39 Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I used to regularly a while back, but have moved away from them. They were simply far too expensive to be constantly replacing. If you like them than keep using them. Quote
DaleGribble Posted February 14, 2016 Posted February 14, 2016 I use them all the time. I will definitely say they break more often than most finesse or mosquito hooks, but they are thinner for the most part and penetration is very easy with a light hookset. Play your drag right, and you should be while dropshotting anyways, and you wont have any problems. 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted February 14, 2016 Super User Posted February 14, 2016 Mustad makes a finesse dropshot hook I use in a pinch. Its lighter wire than their spinning hook. Havent bent it out on a fish. On a tree limb with me pulling with 20 lb braid...yes. As others mentioned, the right equipment and drag will prevent damaged hooks. Quote
