Last_Cast Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Hey guys, Excited for the trout to be stocked soon! What do you guys use as far as bait/ lures and what not? Looking to expand. -Chris Quote
CenCal fisher Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I'm also excited for trout season. The last weekend of april is when the rivers and streams open up here. When it gets warmer I'll start trout fishing in the lakes while I wait for the stream fishing to start. I ordered a 5'6" shimano stimula hat should be arriving tomorrow. I want to try out a fast action ultra light rod and the stimula was cheap. Pflueger has a $20 rebate on reels over $99 so I will be pairing the rod with a supreme. I like panther martins, rooster tails and trout magnets, with panther martins being my favorite. Sometimes I'll also use little pan fish tubes. I just signed up for the lucky tackle box trout box and should be receiving it next month. I used a ten dollar off coupon so it was only $5. I hope it has some new baits I haven't used before and not just a bunch of dough bait and salmon eggs. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 12, 2016 Super User Posted February 12, 2016 Thompson Buoyant spoons. Quote

anthonyfip Posted February 13, 2016 Posted February 13, 2016 I like a black/gold jointed number 7 or an orange/silver 1/4 oz cleo for browns. Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted February 15, 2016 Super User Posted February 15, 2016 In VA we don't have a closed trout season so I've been catching since the water levels and temps "got right" in October . The only baits I use are Berkley Power Eggs (almost exclusively drifted in streams and rivers with as few split shot as I can get away with), Trout Magnets with 1/64-1/16oz heads, and sometimes Gulp minnows on 1/32-1/8oz heads in big water.... I would REALLY reccomend these baits. 2lb is the only mono I fish, 4-6lb seguar red label fluoro is great too. 2 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted February 16, 2016 Super User Posted February 16, 2016 Small Rooster Tails and Little Cleos Quote
Dillo Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Streams are open year round here in Colorado. Ive only gotten out twice since october, most recently yesterday. Last fish I caught were redfish in florida in december though. Quote

Everything in the southwestern portion of the state is pretty much top notch from what I have experienced Quote
kcdinkerz Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Power bait for setting and cleos/rooster tails, can't wait to break out the ultra light rods again! Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 x2 on the Trout magnet, 1/16 oz neon pink. those things are like senko crack for trout. great for drifting Roostertail or 1/8oz Mepps spinner for shallow water. and a Spoon with a single upward hook b/c doesn't get snagged like trebles. I use this in 'deeper' water. http://www.yakimabait.com/products/shad-king/ I can cover any type of water with these 3 lures, which makes me realize I only complicate bass fishing Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 17, 2016 Posted February 17, 2016 Ahh, the Smith, I usually run to the South River, or Beaver Creek. Great Catch! Quote

I just know that they catch a ton of trout for us each year. Quote
dave Posted February 22, 2016 Posted February 22, 2016 I just posted a bunch of trout tackle in the flea market. I don't trout fish. Quote

edfitzvb Posted February 24, 2016 Posted February 24, 2016 I like small Mepps, Rooster Tails, Small Red/White Dardevles, Little Cleos, Trout Magnets, Rapalas, and Yo-zuri Pin's minnows in the smallest size. I won't use power bait, worms, salmon eggs, etc, It's more fun to fool them than to feed them Quote
YourBassIsGrass Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 I haven't seen this one listed yet so I'll mention it. Joes Flies I have caught so many trout on these it is ridiculous. I usually just take 4 or 5 different ones with a couple different blades. Since you can interchange the fly from the spinny bits you can 'make' new combinations on the go. I have rooster tails, trout magnets, spoons and various other stuff but am so confident in the joe fly that I rarely even put anything else on, just change color or blade size. Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 another good one is Spinny-Miny it is a great beat but after a few fish it is hard to get it to run true Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 This title made me chuckle. My trout season is actually coming to an end and I am ramping up for Spring Smallmouth! As far as what I use for stocked trout, any junk fly (e.g., egg, worm, bugger, etc.) will work. Stockies aren't too picky. 1 Quote
