TxHawgs Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 Just wondering what you guys do, when you fish a jig with a trailer or an expensive swimbait and only fish it like an hr and it's in good shape, do you pull it off the hook to reuse it? As we all know the more times you take either off and on the hook it ruins the bait. Or do you leave it on the hook or jig? I can see possibly sent trailers wanting to use new but that can get expensive, and with swimbaits most like the shadalicious if you leave the hook in you can't put it back in the original container. Kinda stupid question but would like to know what you guys do. Thanks Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 11, 2016 Global Moderator Posted February 11, 2016 Take them off and get some Mend-It. You'll save tons of money every year if you go through many plastics. 2 Quote

It's maybe a touch harder but barely noticeable. There's no issue putting a hook back through the spot that it's been applied. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 11, 2016 Super User Posted February 11, 2016 With jig trailers I leave them on the jig, never had an issue. Now I will fish the same jig till I loss it or cut it off leaving the trailer on it, let it air dry & put it in a box. 2 Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted February 11, 2016 Global Moderator Posted February 11, 2016 I don't put them back in with the new and unused. I always take them off the hook tho and put in a separate pouch in my bag and use them up that way, if they're salvageable of course. Mike Quote
Turtle135 Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I put the jig with the trailer still on in a small 4" x 3" plastic bag. I will usually have 6 or 7 jigs (with trailers on) in those small bags inside a gallon ziplock bag that I keep behind the seat of my kayak within easy reach. Some of those jigs will need to be air dried when the day is over. I do not want to put them wet back into my jig box and invite rust. Quote
FloridaFishinFool Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 I keep a catch-all bag for miscellaneous used rubber lures. If it is still reusable it goes in there. And I pour in some Berkley gulp scent in that bag so the used lures are ready to fish. What I try to do is to use what is in this catch-all bag first before going for something new all the time. 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted February 11, 2016 Super User Posted February 11, 2016 It depends on the bait for me. Most I will take off the hook if I can do so without destroying it and let it dry before I put it back in the pack. Quote

I do something similar too. I actually pile mine in a certain spot on boat if im in it or in corner of truck bed if bank fishing. At the end of day i gather them up and put them with my other fishing gear. Then i just pick a nite and mend-it what i can and reuse them. Some i keep and frankenstein some together, especially paca craws. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted February 12, 2016 Super User Posted February 12, 2016 For used baits I have a couple of Rubbermaid shoe box totes I keep in the boat that I drilled a bunch of holes in the bottom to let the water drain out. I toss greenish rigged baits in one box and more natural Shad hues in another. Eventually they end up in a box of prerigged stuff I keep ready to go. Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted February 12, 2016 Super User Posted February 12, 2016 As Bluebasser86 said.... Mend-it X2. Not only will it fix damaged plastics, it works really well on senkos which have a high salt content. Not too mention what combinations you can create with it. It definitely can save you some money Quote
I.rar Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 Just recently repaired a bunch of baits from senkos and flukes to robo worms and keitech baits with mend it. Throw them in a bag, add megastrike and I'm catching fish on baits that were once mangled. Very rarely I'll get to repair the same bait twice because it's too far gone. Usually by that point I feel I got my money's worth and trash em. Quote
