Super User Felix77 Posted February 9, 2016 Super User Posted February 9, 2016 It has already been a long Winter and I am desperate to get my kayak out on the waters as soon as I can. Looking for help planning a road trip that is within a 7-8 hour drive MAX from upstate New York (Albany). Think I can get to some waters which are fishable this early in the season in that timeframe? Northern VA looks promising BUT I know nothing of the waters down that far and their conditions this time of year? Anything closer? Thanks in advance Quote
Burtonxj Posted February 9, 2016 Posted February 9, 2016 I'm in Northern VA. A lot of cool floats you can do on the Upper Potomac and the Shenandoah. Lots of good smallmouth fishing. Bunch of good largemouth fishing right outside of DC. We got 2' of snow a couple weeks ago but most of it has melted. Couldn't tell you what the conditions are like currently as I haven't been out but I know a few on this forum have been out pretty recently. I plan on checking out some sections of the Potomac this weekend. Quote

CaptMikeStarrett Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 The Potomac was 3 feet over the banks this morning in DC, Muddy with lots of logs floating about. No ice but may have some by Monday. I drive up the river every day so if you need to know... just ask. Capt Mike Quote
Burtonxj Posted February 10, 2016 Posted February 10, 2016 Yeah looks like we have another cold snap coming through, maybe some snow too. Quote
