My first to lures. One is a popper and the other is a med. diving crank (I think...hasn't been tested). With the popper i just went with a basic black top and grey body with a little red on the lip. On the crank I was goin for a bass kinda scheme. Getting the lip into the crank body was the most difficult thing to be done. The line tie was tricky getting into the channel I made below the lip slot, and because I don't have perfect steady hands, it was a bit off center. I dont own many cranks or poppers (1 popper, and 2 crankbaits) and I thought making my own would be a good way to get started on my collection ;D. Still gotta Put the last epoxy coat on and will be doing that tonight, and one more tomorrow.

Any, constructive criticism is welcomed!

On a side note, where can i get some basswood blocks? 2" tall, 1" wide, and at least 3" long.

I put a coat of epoxy on last night and a another thicker on on this morning. After about 6 hours it was hard and the sticky had gone away. put on some hooks and went out in my canal for a test.

The crankbait was running really far off to the right, so i went and did some tuning and got to run straight and about 3ft, a few feet short of my goal, but if i was using basswood, i think i would have achieved it. Weighs about 3/16oz

The popper is more of a spitter haha. I'm gonna try to weight it down in the back because as of right now it sits level in the water. It weighs about 1/2oz

I really like the crank, good paint.

The depth comes down to the tow eye position. Try very slightly further back on the next one. That design should be capable of getting deeper than 3', I was thinking 7'.

Getting the eye position right may take a few goes, until you get a 'feel' for it. Too far back and it will swim nose down and go shallow again, may even blow out (spiral). You have to find the optimal position for max depth.

That's some fine looking hand painting there.   You did an excellent job on both baits.

Vman is spot on about the line tie position.   Try this on the next bait, measure the half way point from the nose of the bait to the tip of the lip.   Now move the line tie back 1/8 inch from the half way point.   I've found that to be the best position to reach max depth on my baits.
