RealtreeByGod Posted July 6, 2022 Posted July 6, 2022 I got skunked while bass fishing so I went up into a short creek that's only accessable by kayak at the back of a slough and caught 3 perch and a buttload of bluegill and sunfish. It's a good thing I brought the ultralight with me and can have fun catching smaller fish. 14 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted July 7, 2022 Posted July 7, 2022 Got home early from work so I took the kid out on our lake mostly for a swim. In between swimming, he managed to outfish me. We each got a couple nice little pike, and he got a few bass. I was playing around with a crankbait while he swam at the back of the boat, and I had a pike about 40” swipe and miss my bait three times, all about 10’ away from the kid flailing around in the water. Guess he really wanted that bait! 13 Quote
BayouSlide Posted July 9, 2022 Posted July 9, 2022 The jaws of this alligator gar were no match for the sharp hook on a Jackhammer...completely penetrated the top jaw ? My wife suggested taking him home to make fried gar balls but I quickly returned him and his mouthful of sharp teeth to his aquatic home. 15 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted July 10, 2022 Super User Posted July 10, 2022 Had a good day on the water with my son. Seas were fairly calm and weather was mid to upper 70’s. We fished the hook of low tide outside of Curtis Cove and got some nice Atlantic Cod: I would like to thank @cadman for all his knowledge he shared with me with powder painting jigs. These guys took some bucktails I made over the winter. 12 Quote
Woody B Posted July 10, 2022 Posted July 10, 2022 Everyone knows I like to fish with a Devils Horse. I might have broke a world record with this one. I caught this Perch on a devils horse too. (I also caught 8 bass) 11 2 Quote
thediscochef Posted July 11, 2022 Posted July 11, 2022 Having another dry spell, though I haven't been trying very hard. I've had a whole bunch of personal stuff happen and it's affected my fishing, both in frequency and in quality. Also it's been over 100 outside for 7 straight days which is surely not helping the shorebound angler. Despite this, here's a crappie I gave to a guy on the pier one night last week. I'm freshly single so I will have more water time when things cool off just a touch ?♂️?♂️ 8 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted July 11, 2022 Global Moderator Posted July 11, 2022 Out of town for a tournament this past weekend. Lake has one of the best selections of species of fish in the state. I can't help myself but sample some variety while I'm at a different lake. Probably the best walleye lake I've fished in Kansas. I brought 5 home, 1 on a Ned, 3 on spoons, and 1 on a 6th Sense Catwalk. There's also carp everywhere. I saw a bunch surface feeding right by my campsite. A small dropshot hook and a bread ball was too much for them to handle. First one was a mirror carp even, the picture is horrible though. Then I always have my catfish rods out at the campsite. I'd caught a decent channel cat on a half a white perch and only had 1 rod left out when I went to go to the shower house. Came back and my rod was gone. Ran down the bank, my rod and holder had gotten pulled over and the clicker was still going with about 10' of line left on the reel. I thought maybe I'd found one of the rare blue cats that live in the lake, but it turned out to be a 9lb striper, my second ever from Kansas and by far the largest. It was all but dead after the fight so I ended up keeping it also. My buddy and his family will be eating good with that striper and 5 walleye. 12 Quote

Was gonna say I remember you saying you don't like fish so somebody got a prime bag of fillets! One thing I like most about your videos and posts is your appreciation for other species. I've got buddies who get ticked catching accidental crappie, white bass or walleye when bass fishing..my response is just enjoy the fight. Although a stinky old drum can get me going sometimes. Quote

I get a kick out of sight fishing drum. They're pretty spooky if you make a bad cast and can be selective. Doesn't hurt my feelings as bad when I know ahead of time what I've got either. These went to a long time friend and fishing buddy. I gave another friend a couple catfish last week that has been asking for some for awhile. I like sushi and some saltwater fish, but our freshwater fish just don't do it for me unfortunately. Quote

Oh don't get me wrong there have been many times when a drum saved the day...just fools ya sometimes. I also prefer saltwater fish and sushi but I also enjoy freshwater fish. Although I haven't eaten it near as much the past few years. I'm mostly a C&R guy now days. Quote

Super User T-Billy Posted July 14, 2022 Super User Posted July 14, 2022 Took a couple vacation days this week to night fish the full moon. Bass fishing was mediocre, but did manage a couple over 4#. The saugeyes however are all over the weedlines and munching. Caught two over 6#. One was 6-14, the other weighed 6-4. Lost a couple other bigguns too. The 6-14 is my PB. Been a fun few nights. This tank of a channel cat CRUSHED my chatterbait. 17 Quote

Pitching to big laydowns can get crazy real fast. Had two bigguns whoop me and my flippin stick last year. They were the first thing I thought of when KastKing released that deadbolt reel with no drag. That thing will get your favorite flippin stick turned into kindling in my neck of the woods. 15 Quote

They can't reproduce with each other, but can spawn with either a walleye or a sauger they say. Kinda semi sterile I guess. They grow fast and get big like walleye. Found me another nice floater last night!!! ? 1 Quote
