First cobia out of the surf.  The  skate and stingray bite was good training for pulling bass out of heavy grass in the coming weeks.  5 rays in 30 minutes is a fully body workout.

That’s crazy. I’ve surf fished for 57 years now and have never caught one in the surf. I assume you’re in Florida?

It was a little shocking.  Then my brother caught a 2nd one.

Was south of Virginia Beach.  Based on conditions they are known to come into the surf from time to time in that area with legal sized fish being a real rarity.

FL is on by bucket list to surf fish.  Have caught stripped bass and blue fish on plugs in the Massachusetts surf to a small hammer head off Hilton Head but the Florida outing has alluded me.

Ive never even heard of anyone catching one in the surf.

Ive surf fishing mostly Florida, of course, and NC after that. Fall/ spring is the best time  here for it.

Caught the biggest pumpkin seed I've ever seen. I didn't know they got this big. He weighed about half a pound.

Michigan's state record claims to be 2lbs 2.4oz. I must admit, I have my doubts...

They get big enough to where you can almost lip them.

What a fish! TN's record is only 1lb 5oz. 2lbs 2oz sounds insane.

I've hit a pretty strong drought here and life is getting me pretty good. Hence my absence.

This is the most notable fish I've hooked in weeks, simply for the ridiculousness of this image. I've had a handful of little 10-14" bass, but I've been either unable to find anything bigger or I'm just not moving things the right way. Having a tough time figuring it out. There's also been at least two tournaments on ray roberts in the last week, which is probably not helping. I'd go somewhere else - but I haven't worked in a while and gas is ridiculous.

Looking forward to better days

This guy hit Rage Bug I flipped into a laydown.  I've caught a couple on worms, but never on a beaver-craw type before.20220612_165834.thumb.jpg.eb8eb3a4d9cc85c8f0117f6432dc757e.jpg

These catfish are pushing their luck! I’m getting mighty close to bringing a stringer & cooler and cooking one up!

Fun to catch. This one totally had me fooled. Thought it was a huge bass

Three largemouth today, nothing really of note, one 16”

@anyone Is it weird to catch a catfish on a plastic worm?

Other than topwater, I don't think I have thrown a lure in the Potomac that hasn't caught a catfish.

Blues (and flathead) will eat anything.

I catch bullheads in NC on Senkos all the time....but maybe those don't count, because I'm not sure bullheads know they are catfish.

Trip out today wasn't a total waste - no bass, but this 1.6# hammer-handle kept me from getting skunked.

Also the test run of the F-9 went well, got a couple things to tweak, but nothing major.

No, I've caught much larger. Where I was fishing is where the state record was recently caught.

Indiana lays claim to the world record rock bass, a 3 lbr. caught by a kid in 1969. Not sure if that still stands.

Catfish are predators, just like bass are. I catch them on anything a bass will eat. Had one eat a 7" glide bait off my rod tip Sunday. Nothing quite like a topwater catfish strike either.
