Super User Team9nine Posted May 8, 2019 Super User Posted May 8, 2019 Buddy and I hit the white bass run about perfect over the weekend. Managed around 150 in 2.5 hrs of fishing. Darn near every cast at times. 9 Quote
Arcs&sparks Posted May 9, 2019 Posted May 9, 2019 A little late to the show, but have some nice pics from a weekend trip the last weekend in March. Had 3’ of ice and pretty calm, warm conditions(for the northern Maine highlands). We did the best for salmon and lakers offshore over 170FOW just beneath the ice. We tried for brookies near shore but couldn’t get anything besides a dozen dinky perch. We did catch a few inside the shelter, with the biggest being 23.5”, no trophy’s by any means but a lot of fun!! 6 Quote

Super User fishwizzard Posted May 15, 2019 Super User Posted May 15, 2019 Beat my PB Bull Frog today; Before I have always caught them on topwaters or on plastics the second it touches down. This one picked that jig up off the bottom and ran with it. Thought it was a bass for about 5 seconds, thought it was a snakehead for about 5 seconds, then I got him up and laid eyes on the brute. He was just skinhooked out side his mouth and he hopped away once I got it out. 7 6 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 19, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 19, 2019 Crappie wouldn't leave me alone this week. Tons on a Ned rig, which isn't unusual Caught a toad crappie on a 1.5 I didn't take a picture of for some reason, but it was about a 14" male white crappie. Working on my dropshotting a lot this spring and managed to smack a nice black crappie doing it. The boy had to dig is heels into the side of the boat when this little channel cat took off with his Ned rig. Think I might need to put him on some bigger ones on purpose soon and get some video of it. 3 Quote

Super User NYWayfarer Posted May 20, 2019 Super User Posted May 20, 2019 The fish are finally moving up the canal in my area. It is a Rock Bass honey hole this time of year. Got some nice sized specimens as well as my personal best Fallfish. 4 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted May 20, 2019 Super User Posted May 20, 2019 That's a big fallfish! The only place I've caught them regularly is Upper Saranac. I was able to get out on Sodus Bay this weekend, but mostly chased the perch. Bass aren't awake yet, it seems, and it was too easy to catch a bunch of perch. 1 Quote
Hyrule Bass Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 man, yall make me want to go to a hidden crappie pond i know of back home in NC, havent been there in over 15 years though. if its anything like it used to be there are some huge ones in there. its in the woods and out of site, and it only has bream and crappie in there, no bass Quote

It was very weird, it was only in maybe a foot or so of water but I’ve never had one hit a lure that wasn’t right on the surface before. Quote

Not trying to start an argument, but I do not think it is a leopard frog. I think leopard frogs have a dorsal lateral ridge and the frog in the photo does not have a dorsal lateral ridge. The frog in the photo looks more like a bullfrog (a female bullfrog - the tympanum is the same diameter as the eye). Quote

I’d say you would know better than me, I just thought it looked like the pattern of a leopard (cat) . I don’t know anymore specifics, certainly not male/female. I can’t believe it ate a jig! Quote
mrpao Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 Thats a female bullfrog in your picture. On the males, the ear drums are larger than the eyes. Also males have a yellow throat. Males usually dont have the spotted patterns either. They normally have a green head with a brown/greenish back. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 24, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 24, 2019 ∆check out the tympanum on that one!!! He must work out....... 2 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 26, 2019 Global Moderator Posted May 26, 2019 Catching a little bit of everything this last week in the high water. The crappie and walleye pictures aren't great, my buddy had them out of the livewell and filleted before I knew what happened. We kept 5 crappie 12.5-13.5 inches and 1 19.5" walleye for his family to have for dinner, which I'm guessing from the thank you texts I was getting they thoroughly enjoyed. Biggest bite I've ever had flipping flooded grass. Got a good video of it coming too. Heavy rod, braid, and short line made it interesting. Caught 2 of these guys, both big like this one. Managed to get a Rage bug and 5/0 straight shank hook in his mouth. I'm going to screw around and break the state record one of these days. 8 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 26, 2019 Super User Posted May 26, 2019 Must be because of all the high water. This guy hit a 1/2 oz chatterbait. 5 Quote
