Had an hour before dark. Went out and caught a few nice bream off the dock.

Nice, cool evening after a COLD few days.20180119_172217_001.jpg20180119_174339.jpg

Hey Mike, What causes those bluegill to be so dark complected? The water color?

The male copperhead bluegill are naturally  darker than the females. The lake is fairly clear, but these are all dark ..The St Johns river bream are dark like that.I've fished Crystal clear ponds and lakes and they are very light colored there.

My theory is my bream stay under cover most of the time, so they are darker.

Spend the last couple days in cedar key...caught my first topwater redfish, my biggest redfish, and got my brother on his first redfish and his biggest trout. Tore up the trout, reds over all were a little more tight lipped. Also hooked two big black drum on artificials

Retired???  Looks to me like you're working hard. Those are some big pike. I'd hate to be a mouse that falls in the water with toothy critters like that.

No rest for the wicked,, I definitely got lucky when I found a way to get a spot on these lakes. The Gills are great,, and I ain't much for loud moth bass, but it's full of em, to me it's like fighting through the junk fish to get the ones your after. this was a couple others from February before we lost the ice,,

The smallest one I got this winter on the left.

and the gills aint bad either, this is a typical mess, mostly 8" to 9" once in a while a 9.5"-10"r, but the even the 8's are thick and meaty.

My favorite time of year,, chasing whitetail from Oct to Feb, and as soon as the ice ice is on, hit em everyday we got overcast. Go the to the camper and up at 5am on the ice by 6am,, nap and breakfast when they tell you it's break time. but I am kinda soft in my old age, after about -5* or so, it's to cold fer camp'n but there are always deer to hunt when it gets that cold. I only fished one of the other Lakes this year, and was having to much luck on my lake to need to drag stuff to the north or south lakes anyways. Just right out the back deer,,IMG_9789-I.thumb.jpg.e2e0c64e6d0ecb1e4deabb2bc4babd10.jpg

The ice may be melting, but the fishing couldn't be better!  In January I stumbled upon a whitefish honey hole and despite being hit or miss I still have yet to get skunked from it.  I've been going about once a week on weekends and averaging between 3-8 menominees (or round whitefish) in the 8-17 inch range.  A few of the bigger lake whitefish can often be seen cruising by but I've never been able to actually hook any of them.  Went out with a buddy a few weekends ago and we totaled for 12 fish, 11 of them were menominees with the big 17 incher I got beating out the 15 inch minimum for master angler!  Looking forward to seeing what the 2018 MI patches will look like.  Also ended up catching a random wild rainbow trout at 13.5 inches!  We tried again last weekend and teamed up for a dismal 6 menominees.  I wasn't sure if the whitefish fishing had faded for the year.

After my classes ended today, I figured I'd kick off my "Spring Break" - More like second winter break, by going after the whitefish again.  I headed out to my honey hole and set up shop.  It's sight-fishing in 15 feet of clear water with a tiny tear drop jig and wax worm so it can get a little tricky to see at times.  Thankfully, today was extremely sunny and the fish were out in full force.  I fished for about 5 hours and saw well over 100 round and lake whitefish just coming in non-stop waves.  They wouldn't bite at all for long windows and then for short windows they would just crush the wax worm.  Setting the hook on them is pretty hit or miss but ended up with my new best 10 whitefish in one trip and was lucky enough to catch one of the bigger lake whitefish at 19 inches!!  I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that I had him landed on the ice.  Had to stop fishing because I ran out of wax worms and it was getting too dark in the water for me to see.  One of my best days ever on the ice.  Still a solid 12 inches so will have to hit it a couple more times before the open water shows up.  Fish On!

I'd better change my career. I caught another PB today not bass but d**n CARP. It weight at 24 lbs, snag on Husky Jerk 10. Thanks to my tatula 6'10 MHF and scorpion 70 I can steer him out of tree and brushes, believe me this beast pulled my Jon boat everywhere.

oh thanks to two kayakers who lend me his net and snap this photo for me.

Couldn't stay away from these guys Monday. When the lips are as thick as a TRD you know it's a quality drum!

Anything over about 8 pounds

I catch so many of them that I like to poke fun at myself whenever I catch one. Break out the fishing show host voice and play it out like I actually wanted to catch the nasty thing.

Now I do have a little fun whenever I get the chance to sight fish one.

Caught a few bull whiting with my grandson Tyler yesterday near St Augustine Inlet.

My son ( who does some commercial fishing ) was in the area too, and had caught so many there a few days ago he didnt bother counting them all.

All in all , a good morning, and got Tyler off the video games for awhile.20180317_073446-1440x1080.jpg.20180317_090843-1080x1440.jpg
