I set off further up a small tributary to it's source, which is a kettle pond. I caught and kept a nice rainbow. Good take and battle on a spinner.

Did some dock fishing this morning and got dinner. Believe it or not my wife doesn’t like crappie and I already have 3 of them frozen so I let it go and we ate the catfish 😂

crappie on a tiny paddle tail 4 lb test ultra light. Catfish on cut skipjack 50 lb seaguar tactix and 6/0 o’shaugnessy stainless hook

Haha! I filleted it on the concrete form that holds the dock post…….. but took it inside after rinsing and cleaned it up further. Dogs were basically in my pocket the whole time watching intently

my ole trusty cleaning board is 35 miles away, I miss it so……

I was taking my boat out this morning and couldn’t resist checking my offshore spot before work. Heard some violent topwater there last night. Get there and see a juvenile bald eagle looking like it just caught something. Good sign! I Got a walleye, hard to quit but it’s Monday so I trailered it after 30 minutes haha

I had Friday off for Veteran's day and my buddy Tony had the day off also. He's never caught a blue cat and really wanted to, so I took him to my river spot. He'd never been in a pedal kayak and really enjoy just going down the creek and up the river, except for the getting in the cold water to drag them through the really shallow spots. I guess he didn't believe me that it was really that shallow getting out there.

We caught a couple drum and channel cats and used one of the drum for cut bait. Didn't take long after I put it out to get bit by a little flathead.

Got a couple more little channels on the bait rods before a long lull. I set a timer for 30 minutes and told Tony when it went off, we were moving spots if we hadn't had a bite. My timer went off and as I was walking towards it, a rod that had a chunk of skipjack took off. The fish didn't budge on the hookset. Tony hadn't ever felt a fish like that. It got in closer to the bank and worked upriver towards a big tree. I told him to try to keep it away, but if a fish like that wants to go somewhere, it's hard to stop. I heard the line squeaking, then it stopped moving. Tony said it was stuck, so I walked out to the edge of the drop and could see the flashes. I grabbed one of the kayaks and was about to jump in it when he shouted it was out. I ran back down the bank and and got a handful of a thick jaw and drug Tony's first ever blue onto the bank. Don't know what the length was, but the scale settled right at 45lbs.

She was a mean old girl, chewed me up real good when I grabbed her.

We barely sent that fish on her way before another rod with cut drum took off again and Tony landed another little flathead.

He did finally let me catch a blue cat of my own.

400451152-10224274249510163-762083968205

We tried moving spots across the river to the outside bend.  No luck from the catfish, but Tony did catch the first goldeye he's ever caught on a lipless crank.

Nice cats @Bluebasser86! Can you tell the difference in goldeye and mooneye from a pic? I’ve always called ours mooneye but I never thought much about it. Somewhat toothy

That's a Mooneye. The dorsal is even or in front of the anal fin in a mooneye, it's behind with a goldeye.

What’s the specs (pun intended) on your PB crappie @Team9nine?

Just my PB for SC since I moved down here, but the bigger one went a little shy of 15” and 1.81 lbs.

Slabs were biting today. Got a new SC PB - actually two in one day

Did you catch them on one lure at the same time too? Like a true double PB?!

Nope - just using a single hook jighead with a crappie soft plastic. Caught what I figured was a new PB here and tossed him in the well, then caught an even bigger one about 30-40 min later. Everything released healthy back to the lake after pics.

Spent the last hour of a 3 hr trip today chasing crappie after the sun peeked out and the wind completely died right before sunset. Spent the whole time chasing a big bite or two and wasn't disappointed - 1.61 lb (L) and 1.82 lb. (R). This could get addicting :cool7:

Caught my first bowfin. It looked like it had a friendly smile on it's face...until it opened its mouth.

Muskiepalooza 23 is officially underway.

Boy did I ever jinx myself with that statement. Good grief. Six skunks in a row since the 1st. Finally got Pepe Le' Pew out of the boat today. I've never been so happy to catch a 31.5" in my life. LOL.

Been moving a few every trip, but getting them to commit is another story. Colder temps in the forecast, so things should start improving. Today was better than it has been. In addition to the little guy I caught, I had two tails bit off and six other follows. Three were in the 40"-44" range. Then the wind did a 180 and started blowing out of the east. That shut the action off like flipping a switch.

I ran across this glutton below on a weedy shelf at the mouth of a cove. Low 40's with a 3-4 pound bass T-boned in it's mouth. No way that fish can swallow it, but it has high hopes. I followed it around filming for almost 5 minutes. It was just slowly cruising around, not too concerned with me being over it.

I was kind of wondering what happened to the gauntlet of enormous muskies you had been talking about for months.

Looks kinda warm there too for late November.

Yeah it's been warm @gimruis. The fish have been really tight lipped. My guide buddy's clients have only been averaging a fish or two a day, and a lot of those are coming on a dead shad rig. He has FFS and is fishing giant shad schools in open water.

I've been on fish, fishing the breaks, and outside weed edges in 10-13, but I haven't been able to make 'em eat. Glides, jerks, cranks, A-rig, they follow them all, but won't commit. Been REALLY frustrating. Surface temp's 48-49 in the morning and 52-53 by afternoon on sunny days.

I took this coming week off, but now I'm wishing I'd waited another week. I was just looking at last years pics, and it was Nov 28 to Dec 9 that the A-rig carnage REALLY went down. On the upside, it's looking like I'll be able to fish later into Dec this year.

I recently returned from a two week trip to Mag Bay on the Pacific Coast of Baja.

Two guests arrived in PV to help take the boat to Cabo San Lucas, where I picked up my usual crew, who where already in Cabo fishing the Bisbee Black and Blue tournament.  On the way to Cabo we managed to land two blue marlin, along with many dorado.  We lost a big blue marlin, but considering I only had guests for crew 2 out of three on blues ain't bad.

I picked up the owner of the boat along with two more of his friends, plus my two crew members, put fuel in the tanks, and headed for Mag Bay.

On the way to Mag Bay we stopped at the Finger Bank, and got in to some red hot striped marlin action.  At one time we had four striped marlin on at the same time.  We drifted the night at the Finger Bank, and woke up to the same off the hook marlin bite we had the night before.

About noon we we had enough marlin for awhile, and headed north to Mag Bay.  When we got to the ridge the dorado, tuna and wahoo were biting well.

After a few days of loading the boat with meat, we decided to head back south, and catch more striped marlin.  We heard the stripers had moved to the Potato bank, so we went straight there.  The striped marlin were there, but so were the most dorado I have ever seen.  We had to troll only teasers no hooks, in order to keep the dorado from hooking up.  The marlin hit the teasers ok, but the dorado would beat them to the pitch baits most of the time.  It was fun to hook the dorado on light tackle, and I gave my new Diawa Lexa 300 a good work out.

After 10 days at Mag Bay, we headed back to Cabo.  On the way we landed striped marlin, yellowfin tuna, and lost two blue marlin.

My crew and I took the boat back to PV for a needed rest.

It was a great trip and as usual my only regret is I didn't take more pictures.   I hope the guests send me some of their pictures.  I did get a couple pics of stripers the first day, which I included here.
