There is a specie, that when sought there is no glamour or myth surrounding it..let alone respect..but in my mind there is no other pursuit that entails the challenges and rewards of fishing the common carp.

I think they'd be more popular if they hit lures. Redfish are pretty similar to carp in how they fight but they hit lures with a lot of aggression. If I had to dunk real bait for them they'd be a lot less interesting to fish for.

Its fishing for a herbivorous particle feeder. Its much different than fishing for a fish that chases other fish, this is part of the challenge I alluded to. I reckon once you hear that bait clicker start screaming out, and hook into a powerful run out to midriver...you would suddenly be very interested.

Look it - fly fishing for carp is the real deal. They are very similar to redfish or even bonefish in shallow water, nose down and tail up, and spook just the same. It is a total blast hooking up a 10+ bulldog on fly tackle, infinitely better than almost any bass in the same water.

In my 18th hour of muskie fishing so far this season this morning, I finally cashed in. Around 8:30 I piled into this 36 3/4 inch tiger muskie on a dark red slash bait. I was by myself so the photos aren’t great. I’m still trying to take better ones with a phone clamp I have.

Also, inside it’s mouth, I found a rusted treble hook with about 16 inches of old fishing line attached, which I removed properly. I presume someone was fishing with a big sucker minnow and the line broke. It appeared the hook had been there for a while. Regardless, this fish was caught and subsequently released properly to live and fight another day.

Landing, netting, removing rusted hooks, measuring, and taking photos of a sizable fish by myself was a real challenge but with the correct tools and dedicated muskie net I was able to do it.

Congrats on the nice Musky ~

You certainly earned it.

As for your pics, the single best thing we can do to help and or improve any exposure

is to take a few seconds to ENSURE that the sun or any daylight is IN OUR FACE

And lighting up the fish.

Often times I'll need to spin my entire rig 180 or move the camera.

Trust me, it matters.

Just about anything else usually ends up being a bit disappointing.

Still a nice fish though.

Congrats @gimruis!!! Those tigers sure are beautiful fish. I wish we had 'em around here.

My In-laws came to visit, and wanted to go fishing.  A friend of mine was kind enough to volunteer and take us out on his boat.  We gave them the choice of going catch and release fishing for Rooster Fish, or trying our luck at Yellowfin tuna.  They said they wanted to eat tuna, so we headed off shore.  We landed 12 tuna.  We also had a blue marlin hit on the way out to the tuna grounds, but it came off on the third jump.  Good day for all, and we will be eating tuna for awhile.

Couple highlight fish from an otherwise slow day of fishing. I think the high sun had them deeper or less active than they were the previous trips. There were periods of cloud cover where they seemed to turn on for short spurts. Near the end of the day during one of those windows I hooked a huge speckled trout that thrashed and shook out the hook but not before I got a good look at the massive head and got a glimpse of the overall length. I hate to guesstimate fish size but it was way over citation which in Maryland is 26”.

ALMOST doubled up today. Tammy got it done, but I couldn't seal the deal. I had a 40ish fish come in hot into the 8. Just as I was coming through the first turn, she said "fish on"! Mine chased my crank around three full laps before it peeled off, and I grabbed the net. Oh well, at least we got hers in the bag. 37.5"

That was the only catch of the day. I missed three nippers, and we moved another three. They were chasing aggressively, but were shy about biting, just nipping at the rear hook.

That was exactly my experience this morning too.  I hooked into a sizable muskie this morning but it spit the hooks when it jumped.  Clearly just barely grabbed the back of the lure.  I also had a bunch of pike do the same thing, even though I still caught 10 of those things.  One was a 34 incher though, my biggest this season.  It's starting to get good here now with water temps dropping to 71.  Unfortunately, they'll probably be going back up again this week as it's supposed to be mid 80's all week.

We're just a couple degrees above you here. Water's 74 in the main basin, and 71 up toward the creeks. We'll be back in the 80's here by Wed, but nights will be in the 50's so that'll temper the heat a bit. Hopefully enough to at least keep the water temp from climbing again.

I have to work 6 days this week as I transition into my new schedule. I'll be off Sun, Mon, Tue going forward. My next trip will be next Sat night, right as we're coming into the full moon. It'll likely be the last hurrah for my 2024 night fishing.

My parents are pre-fishing for a walleye circuit championship event on Lake of the Woods this week and my Mother caught this 29 incher yesterday.

If you're going to wait 5 hours for your first bite, at least make it a good one 🤣 40lb blue on cut carp.

5 minutes after she swam off, this 20lb flathead ate my sunfish.

My opportunities to go bass fishing have been rare and difficult. Water is low, everything is changing, fish are acting different, and I haven't had the time to invest on the water figuring them out. But I did manage a very nice pike last night.

Always a little fun to catch...I remember catching them in the trout stream I frequented when living in Worcester.

Second pic I see cut throats...you actually eat them? I tried them once and from then on just tossed them back...not my 'cup of tea'.

I ate the things. I call the dish fried mountain whitefish. Flaky white meat but with plenty of bones.

The small mountain resort town, even over my lifetime, has become an international tourist destination, with traffic, drive through dunkins, and shopping centers. It was hard to see, hard to feel, the mountains. The whitefish, at least for me, has changed the vibe, the mountains have a presence, and a mystery again.
