The ^reason^ I quit musky fishing. Women can fish as well as men, but not when it comes to casting musky lures.

If  the Lord blesses me with a long enough life, there will come a day when I'll have to put the musky rods down also. Father time catches up with all of us eventually.

Quick weekend trip to Deep Creek Lake in MD. I didn't get in too much fishing but I caught a fish during each session and had fun doing it. Started the trip off with a beautiful yellow perch

That afternoon I had a pike smash a spinnerbait. He was only about 18" or so but thick and had some good head shakes in him. The kids thought it was insanity 🤣

image.jpeg.b2e6cc2bc79f223f59cce5ada9d7f3dc.jpeg

The next morning I caught my first walleye ever. Love how they look - beautiful fish. He crushed the same spinnerbait and then as soon as he was hooked put up 0 fight just like I've heard they do. He was about 16". Broke my heart to release him lol but I didn't have time to mess with fish prep at that point in the trip. I'll get him another time.

The last morning everything had been a little chaotic and I hadn't had time to fish. Got the car packed up and told the wife I needed to go get my rods and tackle off the boat. Of course I figured it wouldn't hurt to make 5 casts while doing so. 2nd cast I was retrieving the same spinner bait parallel to the back of the boats and dock ends. I had it at the last dock slip and got to watch this pike come out and eat it just a few feet in front of me. That was awesome but it was a soft eat. Buddy didn't look so good and I honestly felt bad catching him. The pic doesn't do him justice as there were a bunch of little kids on the dock who were interested in seeing/feeling him and I was just trying to get him back in the water quick. He was probably 25" or so but insanely skinny.

Long, lean 44" today. I also lost a high 30's and had four follows. This fish didn't have much belly, but it was thick across the back and has a big head. Kinda makes me think it's a big male.

Time's running out on me to achieve my goal of 100 ski's over 30" in my first full year of chasing them. I only have six more days to fish before August 10th, and I'm currently 14 fish short. I need to go on a tear.

@T-Billy what's the water temp there these days?  Its approaching 80 here and supposed to be hot here next week.  Muskie fishing is gonna have to take a break for this guy.  They are too suspectible to mortality in that bathtub water.

77 before the sun got on it this morning, down a couple degrees from last week. I haven't had any issues with releasing them in warm water, but I don't pull 'em out of deep water this time of year.

Good on you, man. MeatEater just did a podcast that talked about all that a few weeks ago. Episode 569

Anyone that muskie fishes knows that the thresh hold for water temps is 80. Pretty common knowledge amongst that crowd.

I’ve seen tournaments cancelled because it was too warm, even when they are immediate catch and release. They value the fish more than the opportunity to catch them.

That's also why the PMTT doesn't schedule any events between early June and late August.  Too warm.

I think the delayed mortality due to water temp deal gets blown out of proportion, at least when it comes to shallow fish.  Pulling them up out of deep water in the summer is definitely a bad idea though.

Most folks have gotten pretty good with proper handling these days, and the big nets available to us are a great thing for both anglers and fish. The little lake I fish most gets hammered all summer long and I don't see many floaters.

Slow day today. Slick calm, mostly sunny, and clear water. This chunky 34.75" smoked my spinner in the 8 early on, then I only managed three follows the rest of the day.

Braved the heat - 90+ heat index here even at sunset - and hit my normal shore spot. Slow twitch/drag of a drop-shot (1/8oz, #2 hook, Live Minnow) yielded several small crappie, one small perch and these two

Walleye - 1#4oz

I love trolling cranks but drum really really loved trolled crankbaits. I got a 38-39” drum in the dark walleye trolling once, thought I broke the world record for a second

Another one fish day. This pace ain't gonna get me to 100. I only have four more days to fish before August 10th, and still need a dozen fish. I need a good gully washer to get the creeks flowing dirty. I had six fish follow into the 8 today. No takers. This purty 37" rocketed up out of a hole in the milfoil and smoked my double 8 mid retrieve. Awesome bite, awesome fight. It was quite the acrobat.

10 more hours of grind'n, one more fish. Another 37" from the same bay I caught yesterday's. This is my first top water musky, and oh what a bite it was.

Shortly after first light, I eased into the back of the bay, rolling a double 8 over the submerged milfoil bed, but no takers. It was cloudy and slick calm, so I fished my way back out by crawling my new Muskie Train, Wake Shad over top the weeds at a snails pace. As I was approaching the outside edge of the weeds, this joker came rocketing up and absolutely exploded on the bait about 20' from me. Just about startled the crap outta me. 😂 I see this bait getting lots of early morning action as long as they're using the shallow weeds.

I ended up getting seven more follows, one on blades and six on cranks, but couldn't get one to commit. I get another crack at 'em tomorrow, then back to work for five days.

2 for 3 today. Numbers 90 and 91 in the bag. 35.5" and 37.5"  Number 92 shook off as I was trying to slide the net under it. Grrr...  I also raised five other fish.

Only two more days to fish, and still nine fish away from the century mark. Ain't looking good for the home team. 😂

I'll be riding around in a crude tanker for the next five days wish'n I was fish'n. This working for a living crap really cramps my style. 😁

Nice fish.

You're SO close to your goal.

Bet you can almost taste it.

Especially considering how many you've raised.  Just starting posting pics of fish from a few years ago.  We're old and won't know the difference.   Better be wearing the Bomber hat for a distraction though.

Stay safe and good luck.

😀
